Hero railwayman Mayur Shelke saves child’s life in the nick of time

A heart-stopping yet ultimately heart-warming video of a railway-man saving the life of a child who had fallen off the platform onto the tracks just as a train was about to pass though the station has gone viral.

The video footage caught on CCTV was shared by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 5 PM at Vangani station in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (near Badlapur). The child was walking with his blind mother, when he turned towards the edge of the platform and fell off. The panic-stricken mother can be seen trying to reach out to him in desperation. A passenger express is approaching at full speed at that very time.

Railwayman Mayur Shelke immediately rushed down the track, unmindful of the train bearing down on him at full speed, and managed to push the boy onto the platform before clambering up himself just seconds before the train hurtles past.

Railway personnel and RPF jawans have carried out similar rescues in the past too. While railways has seen a massive improvement in railway security in recent years  (there have been zero passenger deaths due to rail accidents for almost  two years now), and unmanned level crossings have been totally eliminated, platform barriers like we see nowadays in some metro stations are required in all stations to prevent such accidents.

Likes of Mayur Shelke are the true heroes worthy of our recognition. Words do not suffice to describe such courage!
