In another heart-breaking news from Kerala, which is still reeling from the brutal lynching of tribal youth Madhu, a 8-month-old baby girl was hacked at Manjeri in Malappuram during a rape attempt on the girl’s mother on Wednesday, online news outlet Kaumudi Global has reported.
The victim is the baby daughter of a gypsy / banjara couple (banjaras are a nomadic Hindu community classified as backward/Dalit in most states).
The mother told the police that a person called Ayub had hacked the child. This happened while she tried to block his attempt to molest her. Police have filed a case against Ayub and started inquiry.
Incidentally, Manjeri in Mulsim-dominated Malappuram district also houses the infamous PFI-run Islamic conversion centre ‘Sathya Sarani‘ which is facing investigations for several allegations of illegal & forced conversion of Hindu girls.
It remains to be seen if our Delhi-based social activists will demand justice for these horrific crimes affecting poor Dalits of Kerala, with the same intensity that they have campaigned for missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, Hyderabad University student Rohith Vemula who committed suicide, or the Una flogging victims.
