7 Muslim Youth Arrested in Uttarakhand for Sending Obscene Facebook Comments to Girls

7 Muslims have been arrested in Chamba, Uttarakhand for allegedly making fake Facebook profiles and passing obscene comments at girls on the social media platform. Those arrested – Rizwan Khan, Salman, Mohammed Warish, Salman, Shabir Kasim, Abul Kalam and Mohammed Shabir – have been charged with making obscene comments and disturbing communal harmony, and remanded to judicial custody.

The incident first came to light on Sunday afternoon, when two of these youth were caught from Old Tehri road and brought to the police station by an agitated crowd. Although police detained the 7 accused right away, there was considerable outrage among local residents when news about the incident spread on Monday morning. The local market was shut down for 3 hours in protest.

There are reports that some of the accused used to make fake profiles (likely under assumed Hindu names) to chat with girls. Police is investigating the matter.
