A group of Dalit women returning from a Navratri fair were molested and harassed by 6 Muslim youth in Parikshitgarh town of Meerut district, West UP, Hindi daily Amar Ujala has reported. When the women’s families went to complain to the families of the youth, they were instead assaulted and subjected to casteist abuse.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the women were returning after visiting the Katyayani Devi mandir. When the Dalit victims visited the police station to lodge a complaint, they were met with apathy.
It was only when Hastinapur BJP MLA Dinesh Khatik intervened on their behalf and spoke to SHO Ashok Kumar, that the police swung into action. On basis of written complaint lodged by Sudhanshu (s/o Gopal), a case of assault and under other sections of SC/ST Act was filed against Aamir, Shahbaz, Mehtab, Hanish, Shafiqu, Mofil and one unknown.
Police is conducting raids to arrest the accused.
