A minor girl who was raped by her cousin brother in Amroha, UP died in Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital where she had been taken after her condition worsened.
The 12-year-old girl was raped on 16 January at her home in a village within Didoli police station area by her cousin brother, Abdul. The girl’s father intervened but the accused managed to get away. After the girl’s condition worsened, she was referred to the district hospital, then to Meerut and on Monday evening she was referred to Safdarjung hospital.
Abdul was arrested on Tuesday and sent to jail. Late that same night, the girl passed away in hopsital due to blood clots in the brain and other internal injuries.
The situation is tense in the girl’s village, and her body was expected to arrive by late night after post-mortem.
Many netizens have wondered why this case has found no takers in the national English-language media, as it is just as tragic as other cases in which rape or assault victims who were referred to Safdarjung hospital passed away and which were covered in great detail by media.
