2 key LeT terrorists arrested by NIA in Darbhanga railway station blast case

NIA (National Investigation Agency) has taken two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists into custody from Hyderabad in connection with the 17 June blast on platform 1 of Bihar’s Darbhanga Railway Station. The arrested have been identified as Imran Malik (alias Imran Khan) and Mohd. Nasir Khan (alias Nasir Malik) who are believed to be the key accused in the case.

The NIA team arrested the accused, originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli and currently residing in Hyderabad, on 30 June. Both the accused were constantly in touch with their Pakistani handlers and aimed at causing huge loss of life and property. Lashkar-e-Taiba meaning “Army of the Righteous”, which justifies its action using the Quran, is an internationally banned terrorist outfit.

In its press release, NIA said:

  1. NIA arrested two key accused namely Imran Malik alias Imran Khan and Mohd. Nasir Khan alias Nasir Malik both currently residents of Nampally, Hyderabad and originally hailing from District Shamli of Uttar Pradesh in case RC- 13/2021/NIA/DLI
  2. The case was originally registered as FIR No. 26/2021 dated 17.06.2021 at Railway PS Darbhanga District Muzaffarpur Rail, Bihar relating to an explosion in a parcel on Platform 1 of Darbhanga Railway station on 17.06.2021. The said parcel was booked at Secunderabad and had arrived in Train No. 07007 Secunderabad- Darbhanga Express. NIA had re-registered the case as RC-13/2021/NIA/DLI dated 24.06.2021 and taken up the investigation.
  3. After the visit to the scene of the crime and the development of key inputs by the investigation team of NIA, the aforementioned accused persons were arrested from Hyderabad on 30.06.2021. Preliminary investigation and examination of the accused persons have revealed a trans-national conspiracy hatched by top operatives of proscribed terrorist organization Laskar-e-Taiba ( LeT) to execute terror acts across India and cause large scale damage to life and property. Acting under the directions of Pakistan-based handlers of LeT, arrested accused Mohd Nasir Khan and his brother Imran Malik fabricated an incendiary IED and packed it in a parcel of cloth and booked the same in a long-distance train from Secunderabad to Darbhanga. This was aimed at causing explosion and fire in a running passenger train resulting in huge loss of lives and property. The arrested accused Mohd Nasir Khan had visited Pakistan in the year 2012 and had received training from handlers of LeT in the fabrication of IED from locally available chemicals. He along with his brother Imran was in touch with Pakistan-based handlers of LeT over encrypted communication platforms.
  4. The arrested accused are being produced before the Special NIA Court, Patna after obtaining transit from the competent court.

NIA is conducting a detailed examination of the accused and further investigations are ongoing in order to unearth the larger conspiracy.
