“South Asian” Achievements in the US: Khalistani Cab-Drivers?

CNN has published an op-ed by two writers of Indian descent. It is highly negative about Modi, Bharat, and the recent Modi-Trump “Howdy Modi” event in Houston.

One of the writers (a certain Manpreet K. Singh) is a trustee with a Sikh communal organization called the ‘Sikh Coalition’ which frequently puts out anti-Bharat material and works alongside Khalistani groups.

The article itself is inch-deep in research or originality. The same tired old accusations are bandied about, with absolutely false arguments such as “tensions between Hindus and Muslims have simmered for decades” when referring to Kashmir.  The writer is perhaps unaware that all the Hindus of the Kashmir valley (about which she is writing, since the word “Jammu” does not appear even once in her article) were driven out en-masse in 1991, under threat of murder and rape.

But the article does provide some comic relief (presumably this part comes from the learned Ms. Manpreet K. Singh).

Excerpt:

“As native Houstonians of South Asian descent, there is a huge sense of pride in what our community has been able to accomplish. From CEOs to engineers, astronauts, artists, and taxi drivers, we have firmly established our roots in all facets of this country.“

It appears she could not resist adding the most visible picture of illegal pro-Khalistan immigrants: the cabbies.  Nearly all of these arrive in the US illegally, claiming “persecution” in Punjab (a state where they are in majority, ruled by a Sikh CM, and with a police that is 75% Sikh, and where their co-ideologues carried out a bloody terror campaign that resulted in the killings of between 10,000 to 30,000 Hindus). Perhaps this writer was not born when daily headlines would read:

“Terrorists stop bus in Punjab, ask Hindus to separate and gun them down with Ak-47’s”

I was very much alive and a young man at that time. And let me tell you this was almost the daily headlines appearing in Bhartiya newspapers in those years.

Now back to the taxi drivers. The writer adds them to the list of accomplishers, along with CEOs and astronauts.  An accomplishment is something a person aspires to, dreams of becoming. Does anyone ever say “I dream that my son will become a cabbie.”??  Bharatiya CEOs of major multinationals like Google and Microsoft are aspirational figures: others want to emulate them. To put them in the same line as Khalistani cabbies is not only a joke, it casts serious doubt on the sincerity (not only the intelligence) of the writer.

I would request CNN not to publish such rubbish if they don’t want to risk losing their literate Bharatiya readership.

A religion, like any doctrine, should be subjected to critical examination using facts and reason.
