Shilpi Tewari exposes a shameless Sreenivasan Jain

Who is Shilpi Tewari, and who is Sreenivas Jain?  Shilpi is one of the active participants on social media, and belongs to the category that is variously called Internet Hindu, Bhakts, etc., and presently Hindutva Troll Army.  She came into prominence during the last Lok Sabha elections, when she campaigned for Smriti Irani, who was the BJP candidate to contest the Amethi seat against Rahul Gandhi, the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family.  And because of this, she is one of the long list of hated members of the Hindutva Troll Army by many in the mainstream English media.  You can read her story titled “I worked with Smriti Irani in 2014, I cried when she took oath” here.

Sreenivasan Jain is a senior employee of NDTV, a prominent member of the mainstream English news industry. The channel has been making losses for a long time now, and the loss that has been accumulated is very large. Their so-called financial analysts have not exposed this feature, particularly since there is a large amount of public shareholding.  The owners of the channel, Pranoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy, have been accused of indulging in various financial irregularities, and a formal investigation is going on.  Jain is thus a prominent member of the mainstream English media who hates the Hindutva Troll Army.

A few weeks ago, the mainstream English media tried to use yet another shoulder to fire their guns on the personality of the prime minister, Narendra Modi, by holding him guilty by association.  One of the twitter accounts that Modi follows made an abusive tweet as a reaction and in anger.  This was the only tweet of such type by the gentleman, and he deleted it when he calmed down.  In this context, Shilpi put out her views on the subject through various tweets as follows:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 0:37 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
Always disgusting to see media use  citizens as baits to target leaders.

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:33 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:39 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:41 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
Can @SreenivasanJain vouch for its org or even himself that he has never used any derogatory word ever. Why not broadcast those names

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:45 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:50 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 2:32 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
And what is this logic .. if u r PM your following translates to endorsement .. and if u r not PM.. then u can follow abusers.

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 2:34 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
If following means endorsement then it is so for all. Which means anyone who follows @sardesairajdeep  is endorsing abuse to mothers.

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 2:38 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
You can’t call amaresh mishra .. the most vile abuser on twitter ever, for an intvw and ask me to wait till u become PM .

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 2:50 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
If @indiantweeter, @kaushkrahul were dangerous abusers enough to be broadcasted then u wouldn’t have to dig a tweet of 2015 to prove that.

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 3:09 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

Jain has gone through this chain, at least the first part, since he responded to one of the tweets of Shilpi.  The brief exchange was as follows:

shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) tweeted at 1:33 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:

The arrogance that Sreenivas exhibits is the standard operating procedure of the Modi haters in the mainstream English media. This has been bred by a long period of time when the responses to them remained out of sight to the general public.  I am sure they knew these responses, but since they were controlling the gates of flow of information in the mainstream media, they thought that they could suppress what they considered to be dangerous thoughts.  Internet changed the situation drastically, but the arrogance has not diminished.

I would like to speculate two reasons for this.  First, they really do not see their behaviour as arrogant.  They think they are very clever, and the proletariat are plebs who do not have the faculty to indulge in serious thinking.  Second, even when they realize their failings, they have to fight back to retain the position that they have.  This position provides them with high earnings which is necessary for them to live their fanciful lifestyle.  More than the loss of earnings, it is a reduction in their present quality of lifestyle that they fear the most.

Also, the thought that scares them is no longer having the access to the social and power circles in Lutyens’ Delhi.  It is not that they will become pariahs – it is that they will be ignored and hence become irrelevant.  No one will want to pamper them, and they will no longer have the face recognition when they move about in public.

The method of fighting back is through extremely unprofessional methods.  As economist Surjit Bhalla recently wrote:

“(T)he old elite — politicians, corporates, left-intellectuals, academics — cannot be expected to give up their privileges so easily. They will try to derail the transformation and object at every turn: If that means fake analysis, they will do so. If that means intellectual gymnastics, they will do so. The key point is that they must do so.”

Essentially, this means telling lies, and try to manufacture discontent in the society.  They just do not care for the society – it is just about retaining their privileges.

But the Hindutva Troll Army is a relentless force, because they are working not for themselves as individuals but for the society at large, and also for their future generation.  Three responses sums up what they have to say:

Yogesh Kalani (@ykalani44) tweeted at 2:33 PM on Tue, Sep 12, 2017:
so journos who have direct access to millions can be abusive and use foul language? or journos with a specific ideology to be precise
(https://twitter.com/ykalani44/status/907530185418797056?s=03)

Partha Krishnaswamy (@kpartha) tweeted at 6:48 PM on Sun, Sep 10, 2017:
That was sickening. NDTV still doesn’t realize that common man has found voice thru SM and their lies will be exposed in a matter of minutes
(https://twitter.com/kpartha/status/906869457527627776?s=03)

Random (@hublihudaga) tweeted at 1:47 AM on Mon, Sep 11, 2017:
I saw old Photo of NaMo … i threw some dirt and grime to it… and asked my friends to blame NaMo for not maintaining ‘clean image’.

The English mainstream media has a choice.  Either reform themselves and put society at a higher level than their own lifestyle or cleanse themselves (metaphorically) from the intellectual space that they are occupying.  If they do not reform, society will undertake the cleansing exercise.
