“Selective Ridicule? Analyzing How Hindu Puja Practices Are Portrayed in English-Language Media”, India Fact, May 08, 2026
“English-language media often acts as a judge for the entire world. It decides what is “cool” or “modern.” Sadly, it often looks at Hindu puja (worship/prayer) in a demeaning and truculent manner. Instead of seeing a beautiful tradition, it sees something “weird.” This is not an accident. It happens because many writers use a Western lens to look at Indian life, culture, and roots.
English newspapers, digital news portals, and international streaming shows hold immense power in India. They shape the opinions of the urban middle class and the youth. For many, English is the language of professional success and “global” thinking. Continuously, when these platforms mock Hindu rituals, ways of prayer and worship, it changes how people see their own homes and their culture. It creates a psychological gap between a person and their heritage. This media narrative labels traditional life as a “problem” that stops or slows scientific progress. Curiously, the same media houses that call Hindu rituals “regressive” often praise Western spiritual trends and dare not critique Muslim rituals, prayer, and worship. Practices like “mindfulness,” “manifestation,” or “cleansing” are celebrated as progressive and scientific, even though they often borrow—or strip away—elements from the very Indic traditions being mocked.
Why Hindu Rituals Become Easy Targets
Several factors make Hindu practices a frequent and “safe” target for media mockery……..”

Shivam Sharma’s write-up on unfair treatment to Hindus by ‘them’ (Muslims, West, Western Media, Westernized/’objective’ and/or ‘secular’ people and authorities) is written with a mindset and expression style that in my personal experience conforms to the mindset and expression style of majority of Hindus (Vedic Sanatani, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs). Maybe like 99 percent of Hindus? It is a hopelessly pervasive as well as depressing and gloomy situation. Sorry to say and no offense, but I consider this as a hand wringing and wretched behavior. Hand wringing because for every instance of complaint, we must state how that happened despite active organized Hindu efforts and counter-actions, but the article never does, and wretched because it does not state what must be planned or strategized to deal with that complaint, and against these injustice causing amorphous groups, unnamed people or vague “authorities”.
Hindus have evolved themselves into a mindset of a prey in a Predation and herbivory co-existence ecosystem and therefore the appeasement, the whining, the escapism and inaction are the tools we are left to employ.
With a rapid, exponentially growing Islamization of Bharat, we need an urgent change in our mindset and behavior or else we will go the Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan way of Islamic region in not too a distant future.
I can of course express in detail what is wrong with each of the arguments and examples in this article, but in the interest of brevity I will just say let Hindus not deal individually with abuses, but participate and take help of Hindu organizations, and most importantly discuss abuses and suggest counter steps from a brave mindset of reclaiming our lost ground that is the cause of a particular abuse. “Reclaiming our ground” must be the mindset, I repeat.
Now islamists too are constantly whining and crying injustice for abuses they themselves do or plan to do if given an opportunity, but their whining and crying against hopelessly unorganised (for active defense) victim Hindus is not only a cruel narcissistic imitation of victims, but also meant to drown abuses in this noise and propagate their false victim tales for the future and for others. They, in fact, otherwise exhibit the confidence of a predator between themselves or when they are bullying individual victims privately. The wretched dhimmi ‘secular’ sidekicks (appeasers) try to imitate their bravado and cruelty and that includes Western academia and Western mainstream media.
