NDTV doctors Lakhimpur Kheri interrogation video to hide name of ex-Congress MP’s nephew

NDTV has once again been caught distorting facts to suit their agenda. This time the channel has been called out for distorting facts relating to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident’s interview video.

NDTV doctors video

In a bid to save Congress, NDTV is plumbing new lows of unethical journalism by beeping out the name and deliberately introducing audio disturbances in a video showing a policeman interrogating claiming to be an aide of Ankit Das who is the nephew of former Congress MP Akhilesh Das. The man claims that he was sitting in a black Fortuner and following a Thar SUV which ran people over in Lakhimpur.

As is evident from the video that has since gone viral on social media the person mentions Ankit Das in no uncertain terms. He states that he is a resident of Lucknow’s Charbagh who does clerical work for Ankit Das.

While opposition parties and political leaders have been attempting to draw political mileage out of the situation, Congress-friendly journalists resorted to sharing cropped videos in a bid to further their own agenda.

NDTV, however, resorted to a whole new level of agenda peddling. In its report, the channel conveniently assumed that by bhaiya the man was referring to Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra despite the fact that he explicitly mentions Ankit Das.

It is pertinent to note that NDTV had aired the viral video in its news segment just a couple of hours before the aforementioned report was posted. However, it added audio disturbances while sharing the video in a bid to ensure that the names of the Congress leader and his nephew are hidden.

Even as the channel attempted to hide the names, its own ticker read “man claims Fortuner belongs to the nephew of ex-Congress MP, Union Minister”. It also beeped out the portion where the man names Ankit Das.

It must be mentioned here that the reference to Union Minister was to former Congress MP Akhilesh Das who was the Union minister of steel during the period January 2006 to May 2008 in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA I government.

Journalistic freedom by no stretch of imagination includes the freedom to manipulate facts. What NDTV resorted to is unethical journalism. It is one thing to have an editorial line and quite another to distort the truth. It can also be seen as an attempt to shield its political patrons while trying to baselessly implicate Ashish Mishra in furtherance of its agenda.

NDTV’s history of peddling fake news

This isn’t the first time that NDTV has been caught red-handed peddling its agenda. It has time and again been called out for spreading fake news. Earlier, NDTV’s Sreenivasan Jain was called out for his hit job on Bharat’s indigenous Covid Vaccine Covaxin. Even the health ministry had slammed the channel for spreading fake news with regard to Covid vaccines.

NDTV had been taken to task by the Press Information Bureau for malafide reporting and spreading misinformation regarding paddy procurement. The channel’s fake news with respect to the ‘attack’ on a Tanishq store in Gujarat had been busted in real-time. With its history of fake news and constant attempts by both the channel and its journalists to bat for Congress, it is hardly surprising that NDTV decided to throw ethics out of the window.

It is pertinent to note that NDTV is part of an ecosystem, helmed by Congress, that is trying hard to inflame passions in an already volatile environment. Political parties and their agents are also attempting to draw political mileage out of the situation. The likes of Rakesh Tikait have dehumanized the death of four Hindus by stating that FIRs by family members of the deceased shouldn’t be registered and calling those who had been lynched by the mob ‘maneaters’.
