Ministry of Health slams NDTV for fake news about Covid-19 vaccine

The Ministry of Health has taken  NDTV to task for spreading fake news regarding the vaccine for the Chinese Virus. In its tweet, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has used the screengrab of NDTV where the channel says that the emergency approval sought for their vaccines by Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech has been rejected.

Refuting the false claim by NDTV, the Ministry has made it clear in no uncertain terms that the news being run by NDTV of the permission for vaccines being rejected is totally fake. Both NDTV and News18 had cited unnamed sources to make the claim that the emergency approval sought by the two firms were rejected.

NDTV said that it had obtained information from unnamed sources that the proposals for emergency vaccine use by the two organizations were not cleared by the ministry owing to the lack of adequate safety and efficacy data and that the ministry had sought more data from both in this regard. According to NDTV, this decision was taken Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation in its special meeting.

NDTV’s fake news was first busted by the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check wing following which the MoHFW also slammed NDTV for spreading fake news. NDTV, however, yet to take down its fake report or issue an apology for the same.

NDTV is a habitual fake news peddler and has been called out several times before for putting out false news. Among several fake news peddled by the channel are the ones on the attack of a Tanishq store in Gujarat, and had even misrepresented Baba Ramdev’s advice on practising yoga so as to reduce the risk of the Chinese Virus.

These are just a few recent instances and unless the government initiates strict action against habitual fake news peddlers such as NDTV, the channel will certainly continue its errant ways.
