Indian English-language mainstream media blindly toes West and Ukraine’s line

One would expect the Indian English-language media (ELM) to provide a balanced view in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia despite the fact that it falls woefully short on several journalistic parameters including putting forward the Bharatiya viewpoint on various issues particularly those concerning Bharat.

The western media’s anti-Bharat stance stems from their utterly racist outlook that was evident once again in their coverage of the Ukraine crisis as well. Just like Macaulayists are obsessed with everything from the West so is the Indian ELM. The job of a news outlet is to provide factual news and not act as a mouthpiece of one particular side.

Wion News had shown a semblance of neutrality but by parroting the lines of the West it has indicated it is no different from the other ELMs and Twitteratis were quick to point out to Wion News the same.

Republic TV was called out for its bias as well when one of the panelists highlighted that the channel was merely repeating what Ukraine’s president Zelensky had been saying while adding that the media house was acting against its own country’s interest. While schooling Arnab, the panelist highlighted that he was prejudicial to the ongoing crisis and facts.

He said that it was anything but an irresponsible and senseless war. “It is a war against NATO. You’ve to understand that the endgame of Mr. Putin is to show the sham that NATO is and to take the lead”, he said. The panelist also highlighted that Putin’s actions would serve the interests of Bharat as well.

The problem with ELM journalists is they are trained to peddle the popular narrative without applying their own minds. Add to this America’s push to cultivate media assets across the world that would peddle their agenda and narrative and you know what exactly is playing out. The biggest failure of Indian ELM is its utter failure to act independently in addition to its inability to put out Bharat’s viewpoint and speak in the country’s interest.

“In his address to the Russian people on February 24, Putin justified his country’s aggression against Ukraine as a peacekeeping mission and couched the forthcoming military operation by Russian forces as “denazification” of Ukraine…But, the west, in their eagerness to wash off their hands from the current crisis in Ukraine, have sought to understate these Russian concerns and pin the blame entirely on the authoritarian and revisionist impulses of President Vladimir Putin”, notes OpIndia.

Ideally, media should have presented ground realities as well as both the nation’s point of view. When they blindly follow what the west has to peddle in an international crisis of this magnitude, how objective would they be while covering important issues concerning our own nation? Especially when ELM has proven time and again that it does anything but work in the interest of the nation.
