We had a cable operator in our colony, because, he had a monopoly he would raise the charges indiscriminately. Society members (including dad) decided to boycott him to knock some sense into him & negotiate a better price. The cable guy asked us to go ahead with the boycott. He didn’t care.
Thus, we all disconnected the cable. In the next 1-2 days, 80% of members came to dad, saying that it’s just a matter of Rs 50 & it’s cheaper than going movie. As per them, we must warn him & take back the boycott. My dad refused, they cursed him & reconnected the cable. We didn’t.
I as a kid found logic in what they said & also missed entertainment big time. So I confronted dad about the fuss for Rs 50 “We will go to a movie every week” he said, “So it’s not for money?” I asked. What he replied has become my life’s guiding principle.
“Cable guy is using ur weakness & dependency to fool you He is mocking your need for entertainment & enslaving you. This boycott is to prove to yourself & not him that you can’t be arm-twisted & that you aren’t slaved to your needs” “But others yielded ” I said.
“But you didn’t & that’s why you are cut above the rest. You proved it to yourself & be proud of it ” Dad answered Since then I made it point to quit my desires but never let anyone arm-twist me for it With the exposure of Bollywood, I will ensure that not 1 rs of mine will go to them.
Bollywood movies might be hit-flop-superhit, Whether their story is good-bad or great, whether it’s boring or entertaining. Whether its theme is Hindu or Bharatiya, I won’t let them use my earnings for entertainment to fool me & feed their propaganda on my money.
