Film : “Who am I?- The Plight of Pakistani Hindus”

The minority community of Pakistan has been subjected to gravest human rights violations and persecution for the past several years, which has resulted in the exodus of Hindus from Pakistan to Bharat in great numbers. Although their problem doesn’t reduce after seeking refuge in Bharat, where they are sometimes stigmatized for being Pakistanis.

The film “Who am I?- The Plight of Pakistani Hindus” highlights the issues of Pakistani Hindus, in Pakistan, as well as in Bharat.

The feature length film tells the stories about different issues they face in Pakistan, which include forced conversion & marriage, abduction of minor girls, bonded labour, attacks on temples, Hindu hatred in government approved school textbooks, kidnapping for ransom and institutionalized discrimination by police, judiciary etc.

After seeking refuge in Bharat, they suffer for basic needs, resettlement issues as not enough assistance is being provided by government authorities, identity crisis, occasional discrimination by the authorities, local people & local NGOs.

The film will portray the root cause of the issues of minority Hindus in Pakistan, starting from the partition of Bharat, where they became the citizens of divided Bharat from undivided Bharat overnight, and for generations they have been paying the price for this.

Bharat has failed to raise the issue of persecution of Hindus in its neighboring country on a global platform, due to which they are an ignored community no one has ever paid attention to. Also, Bharat doesn’t have its own refugee laws which makes the situation worse for these people seeking refuge here. The Citizenship Amendment Bill introduced by the Modi Government to provide faster citizenship to these persecuted Pakistani Hindus is still stuck on Parliament due to fierce resistance by the Congress-led ‘secular’ lobby.

The film, a detailed story of the life of Hindus in Pakistan and their life after coming to Bharat, was one of the most successful crowdfunded projects of the year 2016 in Bharat and aims at raising global awareness about this ignored community. The film was screened globally in many places such as House of Commons and 22 other places in United Kingdom (2018), in Netherlands (2017) and a few places in Bharat such as FTII, Pune.
