Bollywood drug nexus: NCB raids Arjun Rampal’s house, summons him; Firoz Nadiadwala’s wife arrested for buying drugs

Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal and producer Firoz Nadiadwala are the latest names to come under the radar of central agencies investigating the drug nexus in the film industry following actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suspicious death.

As per an Indian Express report

“The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday issued summons to actor Arjun Rampal and his partner Gabriella Demetriades in connection with a drug case lodged following actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

Officers said searches were carried out at Rampal’s residence in Bandra and 11 electronic gadgets, including laptops, mobile phones, pen drives and tablets were seized. “Some documents and banned pills were also seized and his driver was brought in for questioning. However, he was allowed to leave after sometime,” said an officer.

“The pills recovered from Rampal’s residence are banned under the NDPS Act… But we are verifying whether these are prescribed medicines,” another officer added.

In mid-October, 30-year-old South African national Agisilaos Demetriades, brother of Gabriella, was arrested from Lonavala. The resort in which he was staying with his fiancee was raided and 0.8 gm of charas were recovered from him.

The NCB had then said Agisilaos is part of a larger drug racket and was the one who supplied drugs to the peddler who was in touch with Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, also accused in the case.

Meanwhile, the agency on Monday questioned film producer Firoz Nadiadwala, whose wife Shabana Saeed was arrested on Sunday for allegedly buying ganja from a drug peddler. Saeed was produced before the court on Monday afternoon and sent to judicial custody…

…She was taken into custody by NCB on Sunday following the arrest of drug peddler Wahid Abdul Kadir Shaikh in Andheri last week…

During his day-long interrogation, Nadiadwala denied any links with his wife’s case, said a source from NCB.”

Firoz Nadiadwala belongs to the prominent Nadiadwala family of filmmakers. He is the grandson of producer A K Nadiadwala and cousin of filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala. He has produced several blockbusters like ‘Welcome’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’ and others. Sajid Nadiadwala has been accused of links with the underworld and Dawood Ibrahim – one of his films ‘Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’ was reportedly financed by convicted terrorist & criminal Abu Salem. Sajid’s wife Divya Bharti also died in murky circumstances in 1993.

In other news related to this case, a special NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) court in Mumbai on Saturday adjourned to November 10 hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Karishma Prakash, former manager of actress Deepika Padukone. Karishma’s house was raided a few days ago and NCB had allegedly seized some drugs also from her place.

NCB had recovered a WhatsApp chat in which Deepika Padukone and Karishma are talking about drugs. Deepika asks Karishma, “MAAL HAI KYA? (do you have the stuff?)….Hash is there?” But Karishma says,  “no hash, but ganja is there.”

The statements of Karishma Prakash, Sara Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Shraddha Kapoor have been recorded by NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) in relation to the drugs case.

In October, Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty was released on bail after spending a month in jail after her arrest by the NCB for procuring marijuana. But Rhea’s brother Showik who was arrested before she was is still in jail. NCB has alleged that actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik used to facilitate drug deliveries and payment through credit cards, cash and other payment gateways.

Other prominent Bollywood figures whose name has come up as potential drug abusers are several A-listers who seem high on drugs in a video from a party held on 28 July 2019 at Karan Johar’s house.

Rattled by the damage to their image due to this drug-nexus investigation, and other revelations about deep links of tops stars with dubious Pakistani-origin expatriate businessmen, 38 film bodies and production houses have filed a suit against Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, Pradeep Bhandari, Times Now, Rahul Shivshankar and Navika Kumar before the Delhi High Court for ‘defaming’ the Hindi film industry.
