Hit job against Bharat’s indigenous vaccine Covaxin by NDTV’s Sreenivasan Jain

In their blind hatred, the Bharatiya media has been disparaging Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin at every opportunity even if their slandering is devoid of facts. This time a hit job against Covaxin was carried out by NDTV’s Sreenivasan Jain. The anti-national media outlet is notorious for its fake news and has been caught lying through its teeth on more than one occasion.

This is neither the first and by the looks of it nor the last time when MSM (mainstream media) lobbyists for big pharma companies have resorted to spreading falsehoods in order to discredit Bharat’s indigenous vaccine. As is their won’t Jain resorted to half-truths thereby bad-mouthing Covaxin. In a now-deleted tweet, Jain said “the head of the Govt vaccine advisory panel Dr. NK Arora tells me initial batches of Covaxin were not of the right quality”.

What he conveniently fails to mention is that those batches of Covaxin weren’t administered to anybody. Of course, Jain made a feeble attempt to salvage the situation after his lies were caught by alert Twitteratti. In the usual anti-national media style of lying big and retracting small, Jain tweeted an ‘apology‘.

His so-called apology tweets read:

CLARIFICATION/APOLOGY: As many have rightly pointed out, an initial Tweet I sent out based on Dr. NK Arora’s interview did not make it explicitly clear that the initial batches of Covaxin found substandard did not make their way into the vaccination programme.

I did clarify that in subsequent Tweets but the initial Tweet could have been worded much better. I am deleting the original Tweet. For any confusion caused as a result, apologies.

Bharat’s MSM has a penchant for dissing everything indigenous. The current spate of attacks on Covaxin is clearly an attempt to undermine Bharat’s efforts by those in the media who seem to have been enlisted by big pharma companies wanting to push its products in the Bharatiya market.

Recent instances of attacks on Covaxin

Here are some instances when MSM undermined Covaxin only because it has an agenda to peddle.

1) Full approval for Covaxin:

The media as usual resorted to half-truths in order to mislead the public regarding Covaxin and also insinuate that the Bharatiya government had been hasty in approving the indigenous vaccine. In yet another hit job, the Economic Times article dated 24 June talks about how Covaxin is unlikely to get full approval until next year.

The media conveniently ignores the fact that every vaccine in the world has been given only emergency use approval by domestic regulators owing to the pandemic situation. Furthermore, it is important to note that Phase-3 data is followed up by further studies.

2) US FDA approval:

The media used denial of emergency use approval by the US regulatory body FDA  (Food and Drug Administration) as yet another excuse to undermine Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

The launching of Covaxin in the US has been delayed as Bharat Biotech’s American partner Ocugen that had earlier applied for emergency use approval from the US FDA (Food & Drug Administration) has now changed its original plans and decided to seek a full approval based on the regulator’s advice.

3) Misinformation campaign by Congress:

In their hate for PM Narendra Modi and as an effort to undermine Bharat’s abilities in handling the pandemic, Congress has started spreading misinformation about vaccines. Congress IT cell workers started spreading a rumor that the indigenous vaccine Covaxin contains calf serum. The party’s IT cell leader Gaurav Pandhi shared an RTI reply from the government about the ingredients of Covaxin, saying it contains Newborn Calf Serum (NBCS).

4) Anti-Modi brigade disparages Bharatiya vaccines: Then there were the likes of Dr. Gagandeep Kang who were dissing Covaxin only because they hate PM Modi.

Despite assurances from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), the anti-Modi lobby still questions the efficacy of the vaccines in a bid to create distrust among the public against the Centre.

Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav has already announced that he would not be taking the BJP’s vaccine. According to Congress leader Sashi Tharoor, the vaccines have been prematurely approved and he stated that this could be dangerous. Then there is the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum headed by one Harjit Singh Bhatti which has not only raised questions on the approvals for the two vaccines but also demanded a rollback for the same.

On the whole, Bharat’s efforts in producing these vaccines are commendable considering the urgency. Naysayers have turned Modi-hate into hatred for everything indigenous.
