As Delhi reels under increasing cases of Chinese Virus in the second wave, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was pulled up by PM Modi for breaching protocol and televising the private conversation of the meeting between the PM and Chief Ministers (CM) of various states.
PM Modi was conducting a meeting with CMs of all states in order to take stock of the Covid pandemic situation in the country. It was a private meeting but Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was caught red-handed by the PM televising the same. The PM remarked, “You have broken a very imp protocol, such private conversations are never televised!” and the visibly embarrassed Delhi CM froze in his seat after learning that the PM got to know and apologized to the PM with folded hands.
This act on the part of the Delhi CM is a breach of the CM’s constitutional oath of secrecy. Kejriwal has been playing politics even during this time of crisis only so that his inefficiency remains hidden. As senior journalist Sushant Sinha pointed out, Kejriwal has resorted to this new form of drama only so that he can wash his hands off his responsibilities.
While the Delhi CM blamed neighboring Haryana and UP (Uttar Pradesh) for blocking supplies of oxygen to Delhi, he forgot his own promise of ensuring oxygen supply at home to patients made way back in August 2020. The double-speak of Kejriwal was apparent as he had himself tweeted yesterday (22nd April) saying that he had spoken to Haryana CM ML Khattar to seek his support for facilitating the supply of oxygen trucks and was assured of full support by the latter.
In spite of this, Kejriwal was seen acting helpless and asking the PM he didn’t know whom to approach for help as Delhi suffers due to lack of oxygen and he has been getting calls from hospitals asking for oxygen supply. The intention of Kejriwal was simply to present himself as someone who is working for Delhi despite being treated hostilely by the neighboring states and the Centre.
The Deli CM’s drama didn’t end there as he then asked the PM to ensure that oxygen plants across the country are brought under the Centre’s control using the army. Furthermore, he wanted each truck to be accompanied by armymen so that no truck is stopped. He also asked the PM to provide airplanes so that they could airlift oxygen from Odisha. The PM then pointed out to Kejriwal that oxygen is already being airlifted and supplied to various states by the airforce in addition to Oxygen Express being run by railways since April 18.
In the meeting, Kejriwal questioned that since Delhi doesn’t have oxygen factories will the 2 crore Delhites not get oxygen supply. As CM he should have known that the state is already receiving oxygen from different states. On the one hand, he has been making a hue and cry about oxygen supply to Delhi and on the other, there are reports of Kejriwal instigating hospitals to approach courts regarding oxygen shortage.
CM Yogi Adityanath is ensuring that there will be an unabated oxygen supply in UP by establishing oxygen plants on a war footing. As per reports, 10 oxygen plants are to be set up in UP within a week. Kejriwal, however, is more interested in doing drama than working because if UP can set up oxygen plants on a war footing then so can Delhi.
His false allegations didn’t stop here and he even went on to make baseless allegations by Serum Institute of India’s Covishield vaccine prices asking why rates were different for state and centre. Further, he wanted one nation one rate to be applied. It must, however, be mentioned that SII CEO Adar Poonawala had already clarified that they had promised to supply the first 100 million doses at discount to the central govt, after which they will charge ₹1000 per dose.
ANI quotes government sources as saying “Kejriwal has descended to a new low. For the first time, private conversations of PMs meeting with CM were televised. His entire speech was not meant for any solution but for playing politics and evade responsibility.”
Considering his admission of inability to handle the situation and his breaching the constitutional oath of CM, it is probably only fitting that Kejriwal tenders his resignation and Delhi is placed under President’s rule.
