From 27th August 2025, Bharat has once again resonated with the ananda and shobha of Shri Ganesh Chaturthi Utsav. Across the land, devotees have come together to celebrate Ganapati’s advent with pooja, aarti, and utsav-seva, honoring the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of wisdom. This article delves into ten principal Ganesh temples, where the divya parampara of worship, offerings, and sacred rituals continues uninterrupted, preserving the eternal dharmic heritage of our forefathers.

At these temples, Ganeshotsav is not merely a festival but a living dharmic samskara. Every puja, shodashopachara, pradakshina, and naivedya reflects the Hindu dharma, linking bhaktas to the cosmic presence of Bhagwan Ganesha. The sacred chants of “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah” and the ringing of temple bells elevate the mind and spirit, while the kala, bhajan, and folk rituals celebrate the eternal wisdom, bhakti, and shakti that Shri Ganapati embodies.

1. Siddhivinayak temple, Mumbai – the sacred Dashdnyayak Ganeshotsav

The Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, known as Dashdnyayak Ganesh Mandir, has a divine history dating back to 1801. During the annual Ganesh Mahotsav, the murthi of Bhagwan Ganesh is adorned with auspicious ornaments, intricate decorations, and fresh flowers. Devotees offer modaks, fruits, and flowers while seeking the blessings of the Bhagwan. This grand festival begins on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi and continues for ten days, culminating on Anant Chaturdashi, drawing thousands of devotees in deep devotion.

What makes the Dashdnyayak Ganesh Mandir unique is the murthi’s trunk, which is turned to the right, a rare feature among Ganesh temples. According to tradition, a right-turned trunk symbolizes special divinity and supreme energy, which is why this sacred temple is revered as ‘Dashdnyayak’ – the Bhagwan of Ten Directions. Devotees consider this form of Bhagwan Ganesh especially powerful for fulfilling wishes and removing obstacles.

2. Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh Temple, Pune

The Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh Temple in Pune is renowned for its magnificent idol of Bhagwan Ganesh, which stands 7.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide, installed in 1893. During the annual Ganesh Mahotsav, this sacred murthi is adorned with gold, diamonds, and precious gems, while the entire temple complex is decorated with flowers and colorful lights, creating an atmosphere of divine splendor and devotion.

During the ten-day Ganesh Utsav, on the second day, thousands of devotees, especially women, gather early in the morning at the mandap, dressed in traditional attire, to participate in the community chanting of the Atharvashirsha mantra. This collective recitation of the sacred hymns fosters bhakti, spiritual energy, and a sense of unity, reflecting the deep-rooted Hindu Dharma traditions associated with Bhagwan Ganesh.

3. Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple, Jaipur

At the Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the nine-day Ganesh Utsav is celebrated with great devotion every Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. On this auspicious occasion, Bhagwan Ganesh is enthroned on a silver throne and adorned with special decorations, including ornamental crowns, nine-gem necklaces, and divine embellishments. During the festival, Bhagwan Ganesh is honored with Panchamrit Abhishek, and devotees offer up to 250 modaks as part of their heartfelt prayers.

The temple complex is beautifully decorated with vibrant lights and artistic displays, creating a magnificent atmosphere of devotion. On the day of the special Mahendi Puja, devotees perform rituals with intense bhakti, believing that wearing or offering the sacred henna (mehendi) removes obstacles and brings spiritual and worldly blessings. 4. Galta Ganesh Temple, Jaipur

The ancient Galta Ganesh Temple in Jaipur, Rajasthan, was established in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. Here, a majestic murthi of Bhagwan Ganesh is installed, featuring a curved right-turned trunk, which is considered highly auspicious. During Ganesh Chaturthi, a five-day grand fair (Mela) is organized, attracting thousands of devotees who come to seek the blessings of Bhagwan Ganesh.

To reach the temple, devotees ascend 365 steps, symbolizing the 365 days of the year, representing a spiritual journey and dedication. During the festival, the temple hosts divine aartis, night-long bhajan sessions, and elaborate decorations, creating a sacred atmosphere. Devotees firmly believe that offering prayers and performing the climb bestows peace, spiritual tranquility, and relief from worldly obstacles, making it a revered center of bhakti and dharmic tradition.

5. Mayureshwar Temple, Moragaon

The Mayureshwar (Moreswar) Temple in Moragaon, Pune, Maharashtra, is one of the ancient and revered Ashtavinayak temples. Known for its grand Ganesh Utsav, the festival here spans over a month, attracting devotees from far and wide. During this time, a sacred procession (palki yatra) carries the murthi of Bhagwan Ganesh from nearby temples, accompanied by devotional music, rituals, and cultural performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere of bhakti and dharmic celebration.

On Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple sees a massive gathering of devotees, who participate in rituals, bhajans, and ceremonial worship throughout the day. The festival continues till Adhika Shukla Dashami (the 10th day of the lunar month), symbolizing spiritual dedication, community devotion, and the removal of obstacles through the blessings of Bhagwan Ganesh. This month-long celebration reflects the rich Dharmic heritage and deep-rooted devotion associated with the Ashtavinayak tradition.

6. Kadinpakam Venkateshwar Temple, Chittoor

The Kadinpakam Venkateshwar (Vinayaka) Temple in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, is also revered as the “Temple of the Bhagwan of Waters.” It is believed that here, Bhagwan Ganesh’s murthi grows daily in size, symbolizing his ever-expanding blessings. The sacred well within the temple never runs dry, and devotees are encouraged to receive spiritual purification and grace through rituals at this holy site.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple hosts a grand 20-day Bhav Yatra, continuing a tradition started by the forefathers of the temple. Every day, morning and evening processions carry the murthi of Bhagwan Ganesh on chariots, showering blessings on devotees. These chariots are adorned with vibrant colors, decorations, and flowers, creating a divine spectacle of devotion. The festival reflects the profound dharmic customs and deep reverence that have been preserved at Kadinpakam for generations.

7. Shri Manakula Vinayaka Temple, Puducherry

The Shri Manakula Vinayaka Temple in Puducherry is renowned for its miraculous Ganesh murthi and ancient historical significance. Here, Bhagwan Ganesh is depicted in sixteen divine forms, and the walls beautifully narrate his life stories from birth to divine glory. The temple’s inner sanctum is adorned with gold over approximately 8,000 square feet, housing fifty-eight exquisite idols of Bhagwan Ganesh, making it a majestic center of devotion and dharma.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple celebrates a grand 24-day Bhav Yatra from August to October. The festival features traditional South Bharatiya Vedic rituals, chants, and elaborate pujas. Every day, Bhagwan Ganesh is taken around the town on a golden chariot, showering blessings on devotees. Throughout the festival, Vedic mantras are chanted, collective prayers are offered, and devotional ceremonies are performed, ensuring that the spiritual energy of Bhagwan Ganesh pervades every heart and home.

8. Uri Dapliyar Koil Ganapati Temple, Tamil Nadu

One of the ancient and sacred temples of the land, the Uri Dapliyar Koil Ganapati Temple is majestically perched 272 feet above the ground in Detericharapalli, Tamil Nadu. It is believed that here Bhagwan Ganesh himself installed the murthi of Bhagwan Ranganath, making this temple a venerable seat of divine energy and devotion.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple celebrates a grand seven-day festival with immense splendor. In Tamil Nadu, this festival is famously known as “Nayagar Chaturthi.” The celebrations include Vedic rituals, collective prayers, bhav aratis, mantra chanting, and cultural ceremonies, while the murthi of Bhagwan Ganesh is beautifully adorned. Devotees offer heartfelt worship and homage, experiencing both spiritual bliss and bhakti in this sacred setting.

9. Ranthambore Ganesh Temple

The ancient Shri Ganesh Temple in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, over 700 years old, is a sacred abode where Bhagwan Ganesh is seated with his family, bestowing auspiciousness and divine blessings. The temple houses the revered murthi, symbolizing protection from life’s dangers, calamities, and negative energies.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, a grand three-day festival is observed. Devotees undertake a 14-kilometer pilgrimage to reach the temple and seek Bhagwan Ganesh’s darshan, filling the region with chants and Ganesh jaikars. The celebration features elaborate decorations, Mahaarati, community feasts (Dainik Bhandara), and traditional cultural programs, drawing devotees from far and wide to immerse in devotion and spiritual bliss.

10. Idagunji Mahaganapati Temple – devotees celebrate with Mangala Gauri

The ancient Shri Idagunji Mahaganapati Temple in Karnataka is steeped in sacred tradition, with references in centuries-old scriptures. Here, Bhagwan Ganesh is worshipped in a seated posture, adorned with sacred vermilion and gold, captivating devotees with divine presence and blessings.

The Ganesh Utsav begins with Gauri Puja, an age-old ritual still performed in its traditional form. During this period, young girls (Mangala Gauris) joyfully celebrate by performing the ‘Mangala Gauri Vrat,’ while homes and temple premises see the installation of Ganesh murthis. Devotees participate in bhajans, devotional dances, and cultural programs, and the grandest Ganesh procession of Karnataka is taken out from this temple, attracting devotees from across the region to partake in devotion and spiritual joy.
