RS Committee invites public suggestions for school textbook content revision

A Rajya Sabha (RS) Committee chaired by Shri Vinay Sahastrabuddhe has invited public suggestions for reforms in textbook contents. The deadline for submitting suggestions has been extended till 15 July.

In what is probably a first, the committee has asked the citizens of the country to contribute to the educational reforms process. The notification issued by the RS Secretariat’s Committee Section reads:

The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports has taken up for examination and consideration the subject “Reforms in the Content and Design of School Text Books” with focus on the following: –

    1. Removing references to un-historical facts and distortions about our national heroes from the textbooks;
    2. Ensuring equal or proportionate references to all periods of Indian History;
    3. Highlighting the role of great historic women heroes, including Gargi, Maitreyi, or rulers like Rani of Jhansi, Rani Channamma, Chand Bibi, Zalkari Bai, etc.

Students, Teachers, and other experts, across the country, may give their specific suggestions on the subject, either in English or Hindi through e-mail at [email protected] sansad.nic.in

It appears as an attempt to correct the historical wrongs and it is hoped that indigenous history and history makers thus far would be given their rightful place in the revised texts.
