A TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) by a student from TISS-Hyderabad has once again turned the spotlight on anti-Bharat activism being promoted in the name of social sciences. The paper written by a student named Ananya Kundu carries the title “Engendering Conflict: Understanding the impact of Militarization, Conflict and Pandemic-Induced Lockdown on Domestic Violence in India occupied Kashmir”.

The paper was supervised by Dr. Nilanjana Ray. The paper contains several other extremely problematic comments. The paper says, “Indigenous Kashmiri researchers have shied away from working on domestic violence since recognition of domestic violence as a serious gender-based concern in the valley will contribute to the larger Indian state rhetoric of vilifying Kashmiri men which will then validate the Indian state’s imperialist intentions on the pretext of “protecting” and “rescuing” Kashmiri women.”
Shri Abhinav Prakash has shared several screenshots that highlight how the research paper has fudged history to show Bharat as the aggressor. The paper terms the invasion of Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan right after independence as a “freedom movement”.
Further, the paper reads “The area they were successful in freeing is referred to as Pakistan Administered Kashmir. India calls it POK or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir but the people living there refer to it as Azad Kashmir, a name which stands testimony to their fight for freedom against foreign rule and its partial success”.
Blaming Bharat for the domestic violence in Kashmir, the paper says “All issues of gender-based violence in Kashmir are impacted by the ongoing conflict and militarization. So in order to resolve the issue of gender-based violence, the conflict and militarization need to be brought to an end. This will require the government to address the political aspirations of Kashmiris for self-determination and autonomy.”
In essence, the paper promotes the separatist line of thought and advocates making Kashmir independent in a clear attempt to absolve terrorists wreaking havoc in the state of all guilt like many of their dissertations. TISS Hyderabad on its part has said that they don’t endorse the title and that they’ve constituted a “fact-finding” committee. However, their statement is hard to believe since a proposal has to be presented to all professors as confirmed by TISS alumni.
Earlier, a dissertation submitted by one Saem Hashmi from the Tuljapur campus of TISS spoke about nationalism in Kashmir and for all practical purposes was promoting the balkanization of Bharat. It is pertinent to note that the said research paper was by a student pursuing a Master’s degree in Social work in Rural Development.
It must be mentioned that TISS is a state-funded institute and there appears to a concerted effort by the institute to foster separatism under the garb of research and dissertations. In 2015, the HRD (Human Resource Development) Ministry and UGC (University Grants Commission) had blocked the funding of TISS whose Director S Parasuraman had said back then that they depend on the INR 65-70 crores they receive from the government.
Senior journalist Shri Kanchan Gupta has raised a very valid question of Shri Ratan Tata when he asks “ Is Bombay House comfortable lending name of Tatas to TISS which is now an anti-#India radical literature factory promoting hate and bigotry? Does Sir Dorabji Tata Trust subscribe to the view that #India is an ‘occupation force’ in Kashmir plus more?“
This is a very important question in view of the alumni confirming that TISS is dominated by leftist thought and students who don’t comply with it are simply hounded out. The alumni also said that there is no counter-view in the institute and in the name of academic independence TISS has been promoting anti-Bharat propaganda along with extremist communist ideology.
Why should taxpayers’ money be used to fund such anti-national institutes? Shouldn’t the government defund TISS with immediate effect?
