Two Hindu pujaris beheaded in Mahadev temple: Madhubani, Bihar

The bodies of two pujaris were found in Dharohar Mahadev temple in Khirhar police station area of Madhubani district, the police said on Wednesday. As per an IANS report, both Hindu priests were beheaded by unidentified criminals and the motive for the crime could not be ascertained so far. The incident took place on Tuesday night.

Khirhar police station in-charge Anjesh Kumar said that the priests were killed with a sharp object and their heads were separated from the bodies. He said that the deceased have been identified as Hiranand Das (65) a resident of Siriyapur in Basopatti police station area and Anand Mishra (45) of Bhagwanpur area. Kumar added that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the police are investigating the case from various angles.

A report published today in Dainik Jagran says that police have arrested one Deepak Chaudhary for the crime – he allegedly murdered the pujaris to get his hands on the donation money. Although locals suspect that the matter is deeper than this.

In another incident from the same Madhubani district, the mahant (head) of the Vishwamitra Ashram asked for additional security after he woke up at night to find 8-10 masked men loitering near the Ashram. The intruders had cut the electricity supply to the Ashram and only left when sadhus inside the Ashram and local villagers challenged them. Police has now deployed two guards at the Ashram.
