Puthiya Tamilagam, a political party in Tamil Nadu, has staged a protest against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh during Durga Puja. Its chief Dr.Krishnaswamy said it is imperative that people are made aware of the plight of Hindus in neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka.
The party announced that it is going to stage a protest to create awareness among Tamils about the ongoing anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh and persecution of Hindus in other countries where Hindus are in minority. Speaking to the media, the party chief Dr.Krishnaswamy said, “Hindus who constituted 28% of the population in Bangladesh in 1941 are only 8% of the population now. Hindus continue to be persecuted in our neighbouring countries. In the recent past Hindu temples in Srilanka were converted into other religious places of worship. It is the same in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well.”
He also called upon the central government to register a strong condemnation with Bangladesh. Mentioning the fact that nearly 1000 young women are abducted and forcibly converted every year in Pakistan, he demanded that the United Nations Organisation should take note of this gross violation of human rights. The party announced that the protest isn’t a political one and everyone who wants to participate was welcome irrespective of their political affiliation. A number of Hindu organisations and religious leaders have extended their support to this protest. Indu Makkal Katchi and Hindu Munnani two prominent Hindu organisations also joined the protest.
Puthiya Tamilagam and Dr.Krishnaswamy have been running a campaign to get Devendra Kula Vellalar, a Scheduled Caste in Tamil Nadu, fout of the SC list and into the OBC list. In the times when fake SC ST certificates are obtained by non-SC ST and non-Hindu people for reservation benefits, Dr.Krishnaswamy and his followers have been trying to move from SC to OBC status. It is no surprise that they are voicing for Hindus affected in Bangladesh violence when even major political parties have remained silent.
