A woman lawyer, who attempted to barge into a temple with her dogs and slapped the priest (pujari) when he stopped her from doing so, is now crying victim in what is nothing but a show of highhandedness. The woman has even approached the bar council alleging misbehavior on the part of the DGP.

Woman enters temple with 2 dogs

As per available information, the woman was seen entering a temple in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla with her dogs when the temple priest stopped her from doing so. The woman is then said to have slapped the priest following which an argument broke out between her and the temple workers.

A video of the incident is circulating on social media and reports state that the incident occurred four months ago. Therefore, questions are being raised with regards to Himachal police releasing the video now states News 18 in its report.

The video shows the woman entering the temple premises along with two dogs and other youth. The woman has now charged DGP Sanjay Kundu with misbehavior. In view of the charges leveled by her, the high court bar council called for a meeting on the afternoon of 24 August to discuss the issue.

Police’s FB post charges the woman with highhandedness

The Facebook post put up by the Himachal police states that a woman barged into the Shri Rama Krishna Mission Temple along with two dogs and even threatened the temple priests present there. They have also uploaded a video of the incident.

They’ve further said that this not just amounts to an act of threatening but also one of disrespecting Hindu sentiments by entering the garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) with her dogs and thereby desecrating the temple. The post adds that Shimla police have taken cognizance of complaints registered by the temple priests and initiated an immediate inquiry against the woman.

Woman’s allegations against the DGP

In the meanwhile, the woman lawyer identified as Jyotika Sharma has approached the HP High Court Bar Council alleging that the DGP misbehaved with her and she has video proofs to back her claims. The woman has requested the bar council to intervene in the matter.

The notice dated 23 August by the bar council states that they have received a complaint from a woman lawyer Jyotika Sharma who is a member of the HP HC Bar Association. The woman has stated that DGP Sanjay Kundu misbehaved with her and has booked levied false charges against her under sections 107 (disturbing public tranquility) and 151 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offenses).

The notice further states that the video evidence supplied by the woman indicates that the DGP misused his position. In view of this, the council was to conduct a meeting on 24 August.

Woman IAS officer’s arrogance

The present case draws attention to a similar case of October last year from Himachal Pradesh’s Solan where a woman IAS officer was ‘lauded‘ for breaking an “age-old parochial tradition” by performing ‘havan’ at Shalooni Temple at Solan, HP. She apparently “taught lessons of equality to priests”.

The woman IAS officer was ‘hailed’ for ‘breaking patriarchal traditions and ‘civilizing’ Hindus. she as a Tehsildar, was in charge of the temple and arm-twisted the priests to do what she liked in contravention of long-established traditions. Thus, an agent of our secular state used her powers of administering a temple, to illegally meddle in the religious affairs of the temple.

A moralizing interview followed in which madam lectures that we should remove the “patriarchal” mindset and the “orthodoxy” from our society and work according to the constitution. The action of the officer is also wrong from the point of dharma. She must understand that temple rituals are governed by certain traditions and no one actually has the right to interfere with the same.

Thus rather than seeing it from the point of view of gender justice and rights, one should see this from the point of view of agama shastras and traditions. As such women are not prohibited from havans and can do the same at home, alone, in a family setting, or with their husband.

A male IAS officer would have invited the same censure as Ritika Jindal if he had barged into a temple and arrogated the right to conduct puja to himself, in pursuit of say ‘social justice’.

In essence, women seem to be using their gender and ‘social justice’ as tools to target and disrespect Hindu traditions and crying victimhood once caught as is apparent from the case of woman lawyer Sharma.
