A former employee of Wipro Technologies has levelled serious allegations of workplace harassment, religious discrimination, and coercion against certain colleagues and officials at the company’s Pune office. The woman has filed a complaint with the Hinjawadi Police Station and served a legal notice on the company, seeking reinstatement, compensation, and action against those she has named in her complaint.
As per OpIndia reports, the allegations were publicly disclosed during a press conference organized in Pune by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), where the former employee narrated her experiences and alleged that she faced sustained pressure to abandon her Hindu faith and alter her personal life choices. The complainant contends that when she resisted these attempts and reported them internally, her concerns were allegedly ignored, ultimately resulting in her departure from the company.
Allegations against a colleague
According to the complaint, the former employee worked on a Dubai-based project and initially interacted with a colleague for professional reasons. Over time, however, the interactions allegedly became increasingly personal and intrusive. The complainant alleges that questions concerning her private life were repeatedly raised and that suggestions were made regarding relationships, marriage, and relocation abroad.
The woman further claims that she was repeatedly encouraged to consider embracing Islam and was told that doing so would provide better lifestyle opportunities and career prospects. She alleges that she was advised to establish relationships with Muslim men and relocate to Dubai, where she was promised a more comfortable life and greater financial opportunities.
The complainant maintains that these conversations continued despite her discomfort and repeated efforts to restrict interactions strictly to professional matters. According to her version of events, she firmly rejected all such suggestions and repeatedly asserted her commitment to her own religious beliefs and personal choices.
Internal complaints and alleged inaction
The former employee states that she escalated the matter to senior officials within the company and submitted supporting material through official channels. However, she alleges that no meaningful action was taken against the individual concerned despite repeated complaints.
In her complaint, she has named several officials and alleged that instead of addressing her grievances, the company’s internal mechanisms were used against her. She claims that disciplinary measures were initiated against her while her allegations remained unaddressed. The complainant further alleges that an internal complaint was filed against her before company authorities, placing her under additional professional pressure.
In her complaint, the former employee specifically named Shahina Rafik as the individual who allegedly subjected her to repeated personal interference, religious persuasion, and inappropriate suggestions regarding her private life. She further alleged that despite escalating the matter to senior officials, including Ram Kumar, the concerns were not adequately addressed. The complaint also names Wasim Muskar, Hemant Patole, and Zeeshan Ahmed, alleging that they failed to take appropriate action on her grievances. Additionally, the former employee has named Prashant Qureshi, Jeevan Ahmed, and Krishna Kumari, claiming that she was subjected to professional pressure and was ultimately compelled to resign.
Claims of retaliation and removal from responsibilities
The woman also alleges that after raising objections and voicing concerns regarding workplace conduct, she experienced adverse professional consequences. According to her complaint, project responsibilities were removed, and she was effectively sidelined within the organization.
She contends that rather than receiving support as a complainant, she became the subject of scrutiny and administrative action. The allegations have raised questions about whether internal grievance redressal mechanisms functioned effectively and impartially in this case.
Forced resignation allegation
One of the most serious allegations concerns the circumstances under which the complainant left the company. According to her complaint, she was called into a Microsoft Teams meeting in August 2025 and pressured into submitting her resignation without being given an adequate opportunity to present her side of the matter.
Her advocate has argued that the resignation was not voluntary and was obtained under coercive circumstances. The legal notice served on the company seeks cancellation of the resignation, continuity of service, back wages, compensation of ₹50 lakh for alleged mental trauma and reputational damage, and a formal written apology.
Demand for preservation of digital evidence
The complainant has requested that investigating authorities ensure the preservation of digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages, emails, call records, and other electronic communications that may be relevant to the case. She has also sought statements from individuals named in her complaint and called for an independent examination of the handling of her grievances.
In addition, she has questioned why an inquiry was allegedly not conducted under mechanisms meant to address workplace complaints and has urged authorities to scrutinize the company’s response to her concerns.
Hindu organizations seek thorough inquiry
Representatives of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti who attended the press conference demanded a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. They argued that complaints involving religious pressure and workplace discrimination should be examined thoroughly and transparently, irrespective of the individuals involved.
The organization has called upon Maharashtra authorities to ensure that all allegations are investigated impartially and that appropriate legal action is taken if evidence substantiates the claims made by the complainant.
Wipro issues official response
Responding to the controversy, Wipro Technologies stated that employee welfare, dignity, and respect remain central to the company’s values. The company emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination, harassment, and misconduct of any kind.
Wipro further stated that it has been fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities and has provided relevant information sought during the ongoing investigation. Citing the active nature of the inquiry, the company declined to comment on specific allegations made by the former employee.
Investigation continues
At present, the allegations remain under police scrutiny, and no findings have yet been announced by investigating authorities. While the complainant has presented detailed accusations and sought legal remedies, the company has denied wrongdoing and reiterated its commitment to a workplace free from harassment and discrimination.
The case has attracted significant public attention because of the serious nature of the allegations and the questions it raises regarding workplace culture, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the protection of employees who report misconduct. The outcome of the ongoing investigation is expected to determine the next course of legal and administrative action.
With allegations ranging from religious pressure and personal interference to alleged retaliation against a complainant, the Wipro controversy has revived a debate that first gained national attention during the TCS Nashik case. Whether these incidents are isolated episodes or indicative of a deeper and more troubling pattern within parts of the corporate sector is now a question that investigators, policymakers, and society at large will have to confront.
