Rashmi Samant who was forced to resign as Oxford’s first Indian Student Union President vindicated by university’s internal investigation

The Oxford University’s internal investigation has vindicated Rashmi Samant, the Oxford student who was bullied by a professor for her Hindu background. Through Twitter, her lawyer Aditya Srinivasan informed that the investigation has been concluded and that he is pleased with the outcome.

Rashmi Samant, the first Bharatiya President elect of Oxford Student Union was harassed by a fellow Bharatiya professor, Abhijit Sarkar, working in the university for having sanatani background. She was vilified and forced to resign from her post after his campaign to dethrone her resulted in virulent online harassment. Trolls didn’t even leave her parents alone.

Following this, British Hindus had lodged an official complaint against Sarkar with Oxford. Samant had also filed a harassment complaint with the university. The issue was brought to notice by the External Affairs minister S.Jaishankar as well when he raised the matter in Rajya Sabha. Oxford’s internal investigation on the issue appears to have concluded about which Samant’s lawyer Aditya Srinivasan tweeted and let everyone know that he is pleased by the outcome.

Rashmi Samant has thanked the lawyer and remembered her grandfather on his punyatithi. She tweeted on how he overcame the obstacles of life and how she takes inspiration from him to be “more resilient and perseverant” and that the incident fundamentally changed her as a person. She also expressed her gratitude towards everyone who stood by her during the issue.
