“Only rowdies wear them”- Govt-aided Christian school teacher beats kids for wearing sacred ash and Rudraksh

Boys who wore the sacred ash and Rudraksh to the school were allegedly abused by a teacher in a Christian school in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Parents of the boys have written to CM’s special cell seeking action against the school and the teacher.

In a letter being circulated in social media, the parents of Kirubakaran and Kirubanandan, 10th standard boys, have written to the CM’s special cell. They have accused a Christian teacher Joyson of berating the boys for wearing the sacred symbols. The boys go to Anderson Higher Secondary School, a government aided school, in Kanchipuram. Teacher Joyson allegedly berated the boys for wearing sacred ash and Rudraksh saying that only rowdies and misfits wear them. He also allegedly said that those who wear the sacred Shaivite symbols are immoral.

He not only barred the boys from entering the classroom but beat them for wearing the symbols and asked their classmates to rap on their heads to humiliate them. As the Christian teacher abused them in obscene language and humiliated them in front of their classmates, the boys are refusing to go back to school, parents have alleged. They have requested Chief Minister MK Stalin to take action against the school and the teacher for harassing their children unnecessarily.

The teacher Joyson seems to be a repeat offender. In 2017, he had humiliated and given corporal punishment to an eighth standard student. After the student fell ill due to the punishment, Joyson was arrested. When the parents of the affected kids and a few others went to the school to inquire about the teacher’s behaviour they were not given a proper reply.

Upon being asked whether they were trying to convert students, Joyson arrogantly asked whether the students wanted to proselytise by wearing their religious symbols to school. He was given back in kind by pointing out that it was the Christians who have the cross, Jesus statue, prayer hall, etc in their school premises. Parents of the affected kids have alleged that the school is threatening to expel the boys if they refuse to not wear Hindu religious symbols.

The school, run by the Church of South India, is more than 150 years old and is being patronised by the government. The current MP of Kanchipuram Loksabha constituency, Selvam, a DMK leader is an alumni of this school. Recently CM MK Stalin had participated in the 75th anniversary of the Church of South India and said “The government in power in Tamil Nadu was “formed” by you”. CSI runs thousands of institutions across the state and this isn’t the first time Hindu students are harassed in these schools.

Christian schools are exempted from Right to Education Act and receive funds from the government to refurbish and expand their institutions under Development of Minority Educational Institutions scheme. Even though they run using government funds, they have full autonomy in appointing staff, admission process and other administrative works.

  1. Entire country is plagued by Islamic and Christian bigotry. All the minorities are up against Hindus. Where’s Hindus have no such conversion agenda and are perfectly in harmony with others. Needs social and cultural renaissance for India to become a great country. Its only bjp which can do that.
