Community — A Defense
People may imagine, upon reading my words, that I am an “upper caste” man trying to use clever arguments in order to retain my “privileges,” but this could not be further from the truth. I came to rural Tamil Nadu, two decades ago, running away from the ugliness of America and the growing Americana in the urban centres of modern India.
Of course, I had already been brainwashed by Marxist ideas and the logic of social justice movements that were sweeping the West and that would soon become mainstream even in India. I spent years trying to square the circle, to fit my ideas into the village world I experienced every day…..”
