Muslim KV school teacher throws Bhagavad Gita in dustbin: Gaya, Bihar

A shocking incident of religious bigotry by a Muslim Kendriya Vidyalaya school teacher, and related police apathy has come to light from Gaya, Bihar

A class 4 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 school said that he had carried a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and jap mala (prayer beads) in his school bag. Hindi language teacher Sadaf Jahan found the Gita and jap mala in his bag, and threw them into the dustbin saying this is where they deserve to go. Grabbing the boy by the hair, she banged his head against the blackboard and threatened to skin him if he ever got the Gita again, or told anyone about the incident.

The boy claims that this particular school teacher also wears a sandal with Sri Ganesh’s photo on it. She is supposed to teach only Hindi, but teaches Urdu during half the period. While teaching Urdu, she once said, “Hindu devi-devata kutte kuttiyan hote hain” (Hindu Gods and Goddesses are dogs and bitches).

The boy used to take the Gita to read during lunch period. His father, Rahul Singh, said that on December 9 he observed that the boy was disturbed. When he coaxed him to share what is bothering him, the boy broke down and narrated the entire incident.

The boy and his family are ISKCON devotees. HinduPost spoke to the father, Shri Rahul Singh. He said he went to Delha police station in Gaya with his complaint, but the SHO’s attitude was dismissive and he refused to take a written complaint. That same night, Rahul sent an email to the SSP and DM, but has yet to receive a response.

The next morning, he went to meet Gaya SSP Aditya Kumar, and was shocked when the senior police official told him to ‘change his child’s school’. The police officer also tried to shift the blame on the child, questioning why he carried the Bhagwad Gita to school?

By this time, a video of the incident had gone viral, and Kendriya Vidyalaya officials organized a meeting on evening of December 10. KV Sangathan is an autonomous body under Union Ministry of Education created primarily to cater to children of transferable Central Government, including Defence and Para-military personnel, by providing a common program of education.

Rahul and his child were also asked to attend that meeting. There, the Kendriya Vidyalaya RO (Regional Officer) told Rahul that no such ban exists on carrying Bhagawad Gita or japa mala to school. The KV officials were empathetic and listened carefully to his child’s disturbing experience. The primary teachers were then called in groups, and the boy identified the offending teacher, Sadaf Jahan.

Rahul Singh was later told by KV officials that Sadaf Jahan has been removed from the school. She had been appointed on contract basis earlier this year. But he has still not received any official confirmation, on whether she is temporarily suspended or permanently removed and blacklisted from any future appointments.

Rahul adds that he was shocked to find some Hindu teachers at the school trying to defend Sadaf Jahan, and asking him to not pursue any further action. Till date, police have not lodged an official complaint against the teacher, despite such serious charges.

Rahul has learnt that there have been many new appointments of temporary staff earlier this year, and worries how many more such teachers with extremist anti-Hindu mindsets exist in the KV schools of Gaya. The local ISKCON center has demanded that the authorities take strict action against Sadaf Jahan, else they will start an agitation. Desecration of the Bhagavad Gita will not be tolerated, they say.

As per the school website, the vice-principal of KV No. 1, Gaya is Dr. (Mrs)Amina Khatoon, while the Principal post is currently vacant. Sadaf Jahan’s name is currently not visible on the staff list.

There is a clear pattern of anti-Hindu bigotry in schools emerging across the nation. Secularism is now equivalent to exclusively demeaning Hindu Dharma and Hindu beliefs.

Muslim govt. school teacher Nishat Begum in MP recently got a minor Hindu student beaten up for wearing a Tilak to school. School teacher Nafisa Attari was terminated from her job and arrested for celebrating Pakistan’s T20 cricket win over Bharat – how such a teacher would mould young minds is anyone’s guess.

In 2017, news had emerged of Muslim teachers forcing Hindu boys to offer namaz in a government-run Mewat residential school. A Chattisgarh govt school teacher from a tribal community had denigrated Hindu Gods and thrashed students for keeping Krishna Janmashtami fast.

Cases of discrimination and indoctrination suffered by Hindu students in missionary-run convents are worse. And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg, the number of underreported cases would be far higher; thanks to social media, such bigotry in schools is now at least being heard.

But what Sadaf Jahan has done in a top-notch government-run school chain like Kendriya Vidyalaya is beyond belief. It is a direct challenge to the authority of the central govt. and to all Hindus. We cannot allow this incident to be buried, as the Gaya administration is trying to do. Jahan must be punished with the full force of the law and must be jailed for her bigotry.
