Kerala High Court bans politicians from Temple committees

A Kerala High Court Division Bench banned political party representatives from a temple management committee in Palakkad. The order was on a petition against including Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) local leaders in the Kali Kavu temple management committee under the Malabar Devaswom Board (MDB). The court added that political activists should not be appointed to any temple management committees under the MDB.

Sree Pookkottu Kali Kavu Bhagavathi Temple is near Sreekrishnapuram South, 12 km east of Cherpulassery and 15 km from Ottapalam in the Palakkad district. Their annual 14-day Pooram festival is considered one of the most important in Kerala and is celebrated from 10 to 23 of the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February-March). Thousands of Hindu devotees from all over the state and Tamil Nadu congregate to seek the blessings of Bhadrakali Devi.

This noteworthy High Court Division Bench judgment was on a petition filed by temple devotees Anantha Narayanan and P N Sriraman through advocate K Mohana Kannan. The ruling came from the Division Bench comprising Justices Anil K Narendran and Ajith Kumar.

Earlier, CPM and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) local leaders Ashok Kumar, Ratheesh, and Pankajakshan were elected Kali Kavu temple management committee members. The only reason such atheist Hindus In Name Only (HINOs) become such members is to plunder temple wealth and create fissures within our society. They are only answerable to their green communist paymasters, who are hell-bent on destroying Hindu Temple rituals and traditions.

In its defense, the greedy DYFI cadre claimed it is not a political organization! The court rejected these arguments and dispersed them in the waste bin. The Division Bench also found that several provisions of the Malabar Devaswom were violated in the appointment of these non-traditional trustees.

Legal experts believe that though the Division Bench order is only related to the election of the Kali Kavu temple management committee, it will have far-reaching consequences in the future. It will prevent unnecessary political meddling with matters involving temples.

Hindu Aikya Vedi state president K P Sasikala Teacher, who lives nearby, reminded Hindus about the communist past. They are the same ones who claimed there is no need for temples, they should be destroyed, and even today claim that temples are centers of superstition. If such HINOs are trying to enter our temples through the backdoor, it is not to save temples but to destroy them from the inside out.

Communists now decide what mantras should be used and even the color of the flags inside Hindu temples. True Hindu devotees have been kicked out, and communist politicians have taken over our temples. Malabar Devaswom has issued notices to temples running well and plans to usurp them. This will help the government to install CPM and DYFI cadre inside the temple.

She came down hard on Kerala Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan’s recent stunts at the Sabarimala temple. Radhakrishnan refused to bow and used prasadam like one would utilize hand sanitizer. Sasikala asked whether such behavior would have been accepted anywhere in a non-Hindu setting (church or mosque). She added that the high court order would end communists entering any organization associated with a temple.

Hindu Aikya Vedi Working President leader Valsan Thillankeri said that the CPM had inserted party members inside temple committees as if it were a political party office. These temple committee meetings occur inside DYFI local committee offices. Temples now follow the party diktats from these CPM offices.

The Hindu leader highlighted two recent incidents where the communists used pressure tactics on local Hindu temples. Green communists used the police and local administration to ban saffron flags in the Vellayani Devi temple near Thiruvananthapuram. DYFI cadre, including non-Hindus, entered a Shiva temple near Kottakkal in Malappuram when a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Shakha was in progress and raised provocative slogans against Hindus.

While Kerala police sided with the trouble mongers in Thiruvananthapuram, they remained mute spectators in Malappuram. Such anti-Hindu moves are spreading across Kerala. Valsan added that the court verdict is a step in the right direction.
