Indra Haram is mentioned in the Historical Novel Ponniyin Selvan and other books related to the Cholas and the Pandyas. Through these we get to know the details and also the great value of the Indra Haram (Divine Golden Jewellery). It is said that this divine jewellery was once presented by Bhagwan Indra to an ancient Pandyan King, but it was later shifted to Sri Lanka by the Pandiyan King Maravarmar, in order to keep it in safe custody. During the medieval period, after the Cholas defeated the Pandyas, they immediately went in search of the Indra Haram, because only if it was in their possession, they could claim themselves to be powerful!
Indra Haram was not just an ordinary Golden Necklace. It was believed to have been enriched with lot of beautiful and super natural elements. This necklace is said to be equivalent to the Syamantaka Jewellery that was presented by Bhagwan Surya to his devotee Satrajit during the previous Dvapara Yuga and has been mentioned in a tale of Sri Krishna. Furthermore, it is said that those who possessed the Indra Haram would lead a healthy, wealthy and happy life. That’s why Cholas wanted to get hold of it and they succeeded in obtaining it after waging a war with Sri Lanka!
Now the question is whether that wonderful divine object is still present in the world or not. It is believed that this necklace was gifted to a famous temple by a Chola king; however, over the course of time, the existence of that valuable object has become uncertain.
At present, obtaining a valuable object from the hands of gods such as Indra and Surya is highly impossible. The appearance of deities before human beings is not an easy occurrence, since most of us do not show sincere faith and devotion to the Almighty. At this point in time, if anyone possesses such valuable objects, they should use them for the welfare of the world by helping to remove poverty, disease, and human suffering. I strongly believe that serving humanity is greater than serving God.
