Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the true depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry, have been ignored by the world. From murders, sexual violence, forced conversions, land grab, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.
In this weekly summary for the period from 31 January 2021 to 6 February 2021, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:
Bharat
1) Amid the ongoing Khalistanis-led so-called farmer protests, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a Hindu temple critically injuring a priest and a girl. Unidentified gunmen stormed into a temple near Phillaur, Punjab yesterday morning and opened fire, critically wounding the temple priest Sant Gyan Muni and a girl, Simran (16). Both have been admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana. The priest was hit by 3 bullets, and the girl with 2. It is said that the girl was shot when she rushed to the aid of the priest. The incident occurred in Bhar Singh Pura village of Jalandhar district.
2) Periyarists use Puducherry governor Kiran Bedi’s skill training programmed to spread their venomous Hindudveshi propaganda. It was a news report about training unemployed youth under Skill India Mission to improve their skills so that they can get a job or become an entrepreneur. In another part of the news it was mentioned that the fields of Health and Agriculture were missed while granting permission to private entities for providing training in 2017 and that they have been added in the current year. Periyarists and leftists took both these points out of context to maliciously spread misinformation that Kiran Bedi is promoting hereditary profession and asking the children of manual scavengers to take up the same job instead of moving up the ladder.
3) At a time, when Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh (AP) have been increasingly coming under attack, reports have emerged of damage to the unique centuries-old Yaganti temple due to blasts during mining activity taking place in the area. According to available information, the temple has developed cracks as a result of the mining activities which is being attributed among others to CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP party leaders as well.
4) The Communist government of Kerala has yet again displayed its Hindudveshi face by canceling women-centric Attukal Pongala festival. Tourist spots, beaches, places of worship belonging to particular communities have all been opened up to the public. This was evident last week at a gathering near a mosque at Tirur near Malappuram. However, temples are under strict supervision and tight government control, especially with regards to the number of devotees who are allowed. Sabarimala Temple attendance which used to see lakhs of devotees daily was restricted to five thousand per day. The latest festival to be totally abandoned is the famous Attukkal Pongala.
5) Ex-AMU student & Newslaundry columnist Sharjeel Usmani spews venom against Hindus in Elgar Parishad meet. Sharjeel Usmani has been booked under section 153 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds for spewing venom against Hindus at the second Elgar Parishad in Pune on 30 January. The Pune police swung into action after there were widespread furor and anger among the public in addition to the BJP Maharashtra unit raising demands for sedition charges against Usmani.
6) A Tamil Nadu BJP leader who has been vocal about the growing Islamic radicalism has been arrested, allegedly for making derogatory comments about the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and getting threats from Islamists for the same. On January 26th, SDPI, the political wing of PFI went on a march in support of the farmers protesting in Delhi. In this protest held in Coimbatore, a street play was enacted in which a person disguised as PM Modi could be seen begging to the leaders of other nations and acting brave in front of common people.
7) That the farmers’ protests is actually driven by anti-Hindu agenda became clear when Islamic clerics extended their support to Rakesh Tikait who had earlier exposed his Hindudveshi stance when he attacked Hindu temples while speaking of farm laws. The clerics coming out in support of Khalistanis and the likes of Tikait who were inciting the mobs before Republic Day and attempted to deflect the blame post the Republic Day violence. The Khalistani bigotry behind the Red Fort violence having been proved beyond doubt, there seems to be a sinister plan to create an alliance of anti-Bharat forces such as Islamist, Khalistani, and Communist among others.
8) Tele-evangelist Paul Dhinakaran attempted to usurp lands belonging to tribals and capturing an entire village by changing its name and demographics.
9) In a case of grooming that has come to light from UP’s Meerut a teenage student studying in class 12 was abducted by her private tutor who threatened to murder her younger brother when she refused to go with him. The 25-year-old accused who has been identified as Amaan has been booked under various sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 (UPPUCRO) along with section 362 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal code (IPC).
10) A 22-year-old Hindu man was stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend by her brother who was opposed to their relationship reports Times of India (TOI). Along with the 21-year-old accused Mohammad Mahboob, his sister Shahnaz Parveen and father Mohammad Rahmat were also taken into custody and charged with conspiring to murder Manoj Kumar Sah.
11) Government grip over Hindu temples tightens in Karnataka with private Hindu temples having been given a month’s time to register with the administration in the directive issued by Chikkamagaluru Assistant Commissioner Shri HL Nagaraj. This directive excludes all those temples which already fall under the Muzrai department. The directive also says that those temples that fail to comply would have to face action.
Pakistan
1) Religious Affairs Committee of the Senate has rejected the Minorities’ Protection Bill. Those who want protection of Muslim minority in Bharat, the West & elsewhere but not their own minorities in Pakistan.
Bangladesh
1) Hindu religious minorities in Bangladesh are facing existential challenges on a daily basis. It has now become a norm for Islamists to issue constant threats to the minority Hindu community residing in various parts of Bangladesh. Islamic extremists are reported to have violently attacked women, religious minorities, journalists, writers, and development workers among others.
2) Stepping up their attacks on the minority Hindu population, Islamic religious fanatics of Bangladesh vandalized a series of Hindu temples in different parts of the country. According to National Human Rights Commission, the attacks on several Hindu temples in Bangladesh were carried out under a well-orchestrated plan aimed at grabbing lands of the minority community. The attack on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh is only becoming a regular affair with each passing day.
3) A Hindu girl Ankita Saha Suha abducted & raped then murdered by Mohammad Jhahingir at Rupsha Doulatpur P.S, Khulna District.
Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is obvious, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface, but the double standards at play become clear when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals, and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.
