Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 7 September to 13 September 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) On the recently concluded Thiruvonam day, a group of young women staged a pro-Palestine march in Kannur district, Northern Kerala. While the very idea of a “pro-Palestine” demonstration in India raises serious questions, this group chose to push boundaries further. They conducted the march through temple-owned land, testing not just legal limits but the patience of a society known for its tolerance.

2) Kerala – its Communist ruler and the woke followers, never miss a chance to preach “secularism” to the rest of Bharat. In the state where Palestine flags flutter freely, rallies glorifying Hamas terrorists are organized without consequence, and funeral prayers are offered for men like Yahya Sinwar, the Pinarayi Vijayan government draws the line at an Onam pookolam carrying the words “Operation Sindoor.”

3) A team led by Bajrang Dal district convener Himanshu Kanyal, working alongside Vishwa Hindu Parishad volunteers in Khatima and Sitarganj for a week, uncovered a case where a Hindu woman was reportedly deceived into marriage by Muslim man Monish (son of Irshad Ahmed Bharti from Meerut, residing in Dineshpur) who posed as Manish Chaudhary on matrimonial site Shaadi.com to dupe the victim.

4) A disturbing incident shook Viroda village, Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh (MP), late Sunday (7 September) night when a Ganesh Visarjan procession, accompanied by the recital of Hanuman Chalisa, came under stone-pelting by Islamist miscreants. The unprovoked attack on peacefully gathered devotees triggered panic and clashes, leaving several people injured.

5) “In my religion, worship is not allowed. The Quran also states this. I went to Ganesh Puja for the first time. I was targeted because I am a Muslim. If anyone abuses me to my face, I will slit his throat.” These are the words of TV actor Aly Goni, who kicked up a storm recently after a video of him remaining silent at Ganesh Puja while his non-Muslim girlfriend vigorously chanting Ganpati Bappa Morya had gone viral on social media. But his explanation following the controversy nevertheless reflects the mindset of Islamic fundamentalism and how it affects someone as privileged and entitled as Goni

6) A chilling conspiracy has come to light in Ambedkar Nagar district, where 56 girls, most of them Hindu minors from Scheduled Castes and poor families, have gone missing in just one month. Police records confirm 56 FIRs of kidnapping registered across 18 police stations, while several Hindu families, fearing social stigma, have chosen not to lodge complaints.

7) In Noida, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu woman was trapped in a love affair under a false identity by one Ehsan Hussain, and then was forced to convert to Islam. As per reports, the woman was rescued from Chennai after a police complaint. She was made to undergo a Nikah and conversion.

8) Ganesh Visarjan processions were attacked in several places across Karnataka. There were reports of Murtis being spat upon and stones being hurled from Mosques. 21 people have been arrested so far with reports of Hindus being lathi-charged for protesting too.

9) A 26-year-old woman from the Ramgarhtal area in Gorakhpur accused a man named Shamshad Alam of sexual assault and deceit. The woman reported that Shamshad, originally from Bettiah in Bihar, posed as “Rakesh Nishad” on Instagram, befriending her under this false identity. Their relationship progressed, with Shamshad promising marriage and allegedly extracting money (₹50,000 initially, and later ₹70,000 more claiming he was going abroad).

10) A fresh controversy has erupted at the revered Sabarimala temple after the Kerala High Court–appointed special commissioner reported that gold plating from the Dwara Palakas, the guardian figures flanking the sanctum sanctorum, was removed and transported to Chennai without prior judicial sanction.

11) The Shiv Mandir in Keshav Nagar’s Godrej Infinity Housing Society in Maharashtra was vandalised when the sacred Shivling was uprooted and found discarded in a garbage heap, shocking and outraging local residents.

12) A Muslim man named Shanu, who pretended to be Sunny on Instagram, lured a Scheduled Caste woman into his web of lies and ultimately raped her. investigations revealed that Shanu deliberately created fake Instagram accounts under Hindu names to appear trustworthy. He would speak to women, pretend to be of their caste and community, and slowly gain their confidence.

13) Autorickshaw driver Neeraj Upadhyay residing in Mumbai’s Vikhroli Parksite area received Sar Tan Se Juda (STSJ) threats from Islamists after he objected to the nameboard of Dharamveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj being covered with an Eid poster.

World

1) While the unrest in Nepal simmers down, reports are emerging that a batch of pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh faced tense moments when miscreants attacked their bus near Kathmandu. According to the police, the pilgrims were returning from a visit to Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu when their bus bearing a UP came under attack. As per the report, the assailants hurled stones at the bus, smashing its windows, and robbed the passengers of their bags, cash and mobile phones.

2) Continuing to host and support Khalistani elements in Canada, the Canadian authorities recently offered protection to Khalistani terrorist Inderjeet Gosal, who was involved in the Brampton Hindu temple attack, from an alleged threat to his life.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
