Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 09 October to 15 October 2022, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Gujarat minister explained how Bet Dwarka Land Jihad was undertaken through illegal mosques/Mazars, forced conversions and smuggling.

2) A case of grooming jihad has emerged from the Tamil Nadu cinema industry. A small screen actress has accused a fellow actor of forcing her to convert to Islam to marry her and abandoning her after conceiving his child.

3) In another shocking incident that appears to be a love jihad case reported in Ghaziabad, a 35-year-old Hindu woman was killed by her “lover,” Nadeem. Nadeem was arrested in Nand Gram for killing the victim with an axe over suspicions of her having an affair with another man, confirmed the police on Tuesday, September 18.

4) Yet another incident of Grooming Jihad (aka Love Jihad) with the gruesome murder of a Hindu girl has come to light from West Bengal. Minor girl Rubi Kumari (13) was allegedly raped and murdered by one Sheikh Raja (19).

5) West Bengal police have arrested a man named Ashabul Molla for duping and marrying 24 women after forging his identity. The fraudulency came to light after one of his latest victims lodged a police complaint against the accused.

6) Islamists attacked Lakshmi Puja and vandalized Hindu homes and shops in Kolkata’s Mominpore on October 9.

7) A case of grooming has come to light from Rajasthan where bank executive Surabhi Kumavat was forced to commit suicide after her marriage with Shahid Ali went awry and turned into a nightmare for her. Her suicide note says she was taking the extreme step as her husband hated her and she just wanted to be happy.

8) A Hindu girl was stabbed several times by a Muslim man on October 6 after she allegedly refused his marriage proposal. The incident happened near the Narangi military cantonment area of Assam’s largest city Guwahati. According to locals, Rafiq Ali (23) attacked Anjali Biswas (21) with a sharp knife when she was on her way to work, walking through an alley.

9) A 17-year-old Hindu girl was groomed and abducted by a married Muslim man from Surat, Gujarat. Abdul Hameed, a father of 4, took the minor to Ajmer by train. He has been arrested and the child recovered.

10) Police have nabbed an accused fakir (Muslim mendicant), Mujawar, in a land-grabbing case for constructing a Dargah illegally next to the iconic Mani Mandir in Morbi. The police nabbed the accused Mujawar Hashamsha Jafarsha Fakir from Ahmedabad Airport.

11) The silver crown of the deity, a gold-plated face of the idol and cash from the donation box have been stolen from the 150-year-old Anandi Devi temple in Lucknow’s Chowk area.

12) Islamists raised the ‘sar tan se juda’ slogan (call for beheading those who allegedly disrespect Muhammad) during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi processions to ‘celebrate’ the birth of Islam’s founder.

13) Samajwadi Party MLC and former BJP minister, Swami Prasad Maurya’s personal secretary Sajjad and 12 others have been booked for molestation of a Dalit woman and attempt to murder her brothers in the Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow.

14) In what has become typical of Muslim-dominated areas, the construction of a Hindu temple was forcibly stopped in Bareilly District’s Bairamnagar village. The Muslims also threatened to close down Hindu businesses in the village.

15) A case of forced conversion of a Hindu Dalit youth in Bengaluru has sparked public indignation, with the victim reportedly circumcised, left to bleed, and brutally tortured in Banashankari mosque.

16) Aas Mohammad, a resident of Palla village in the Dadri Kotwali area of Greater Noida, has been arrested for attempting to murder Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabodhanand Giri Maharaj in a temple in Ghaziabad district, UP. The accused is also a serial grooming jihadi who has exploited many Hindu girls and received funding from the banned terror outfit PFI.

17) Stone pelting has become a regular business for Islamists to attack any Hindu religious procession. On October 10, 2022, the visarjan procession of Devi Durga was attacked by Islamists in UP’s (Uttar Pradesh) Sultanpur. Also, at least 20 persons reportedly suffered minor injuries in the incident. Devi’s murti was also vandalized in the attack.

18) The News Bangla editor Manab Guha was arrested by Kolkata police after he covered Mominpur anti-Hindu pogrom.

Pakistan

Abduction, rape, forced conversion, and marriage of minor Hindu girls are common occurrences in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. At least 1000 minority girls suffer such sex slavery every year in Sindh province alone. Apart from this, Pakistani Hindus face systemic and institutionalized discrimination and neglect, such as frequent attacks on Hindu temples, demonization of education curriculum, police and judicial antipathy, denial of fundamental rights, and even untouchability.

1) In a shocking revelation of the untouchability and discrimination faced by Pakistani Hindus, a Hindu girl who started a new job in Karachi, Sindh shared her dehumanizing experience with a friend.

World

1) A 28-year-old Indian student Shubam Garg from Agra is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times to his face, chest and abdomen in an apparent racial attack in Australia on October 6.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface, but the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by dropping an email to [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
