West Bengal: Bangladeshi smugglers abducted Bharatiya farmer in Coochbehar

On the morning of 8th of September, 2025, Bangladeshi smugglers abducted a Bharatiya farmer from the zero line of Bharat-Bangladesh international borders of Coochbehar district of West Bengal. After BSF’s intervention, the farmer safely returned.

The farmer has been identified as Krishnakanta Barman. He is a resident of Mirapara village near the Bharat-Bangladesh international borders of Shitalkuchi block of Coochbehar district.

Krishnakanta Barman has some farm lands along the zero line of Bharat-Bangladesh international borders. This morning, he went to his land for farming. Some armed Bangladeshi smugglers abducted him and took him to Bangladesh. Other farmers who were working nearby informed BSF jawans.

BSF immediately informed the matter to the BGB of Bangladesh side through the flag meeting. BGB launched a search operation. During the evening, BGB with the help of a team of Bangladesh Police located the abducted Bharatiya farmer in Hatibandha Upazila under Lalmonirohat district and recovered him.

Around 9.30PM, BGB handed the farmer to the BSF through a flag meeting.

However, abduction of Bharatiya farmers by the Bangladeshi smugglers from the zero line of Bharat-Bangladesh international borders is not new. Few months ago, Bangladesho smugglers abducted a Bharatiya farmer named Ukil Barman of Shitalkuchi block of Coochbehar district as BSF shot dead a Bangladeshi smuggler during cow smuggling. Bharatiya farmers have been demanding enough security for long, but abduction and attacks happen often.
