Shocking news has been coming from South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. A TMC leader allegedly raped the mother of a BJP worker in Baruipur. Although the woman filed a complaint at the Baruipur Police Station, the Police couldn’t arrest the accused. Local BJP leaders alleged that the Police didn’t want to arrest the accused, as he is a TMC leader.
As per the reports, the victim woman is a resident of Hariharpur village. The village comes under the jurisdiction of the Baruipur Police Station. Her son is an active worker of the BJP.
On the morning of 5th of January, Friday, the woman went to a garden near her house to collect dry wood. She used to go into the garden to collect dry wood for cooking. On that day, local TMC leader Malay Naskar alias Gora dragged her into a bush. By showing sharp weapons, the TMC leader raped her repeatedly.
The woman alleged, “He(the accused TMC leader) threatened me to murder if I told anybody. He then tied my hands with my saree and threw me into a pond. I somehow managed to come out from the pond.” She later filed a written complaint at the Baruipur Police Station. But, the Police have yet to arrest the accused TMC leader.
Meanwhile, the Police inaction has created outrage in the area. Many locals are angry over the Police investigation. On Sunday, 7th of January, large numbers of women, led by BJP’s Mahila Morcha, protested against the Police inaction and demanded the arrest of the accused. But, sources say that the accused TMC leader is absconding.
BJP leader Anirban Ganguly alleged, “The accused is under the shelter of the TMC; that’s why the Police are not arresting him. Everyone knows who the rapist is. I want to see the Police action against the criminal irrespective of his political identity. I’ll inform the Women Commission about this.”
There are reports that while the victim is in hospital, her son (the BJP worker) has been detained by police while another infant son is currently alone at home with no one to care for him.
