West Bengal: Murder accused Sajjak Alam escapes from police custody after shoot out in North Dinajpur; 2 policemen injured

In a shocking incident, notorious criminal Sajjak Alam, a murder accused escaped from police custody in Panjipara of West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district. Two police personnel were injured in the shoot-out against Sajjak. The incident occurred on 15 January 2025.

As per the reports, Sajjak Alam was being taken in a police car to Raiganj jail from the Islampur Court. Near Panjipara, Sajjad Alam exited the vehicle under the pretext of wanting to go to the toilet. Subsequently, two others started firing towards the police personnel. Nilkanta Sarkar and Deben Baishya got hit and fell on the ground. The firing enabled Sajjak Alam to flee.

Soon after the incident, locals recovered the two police personnel and admitted them to Islampur Hospital. Later, they were shifted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

The Police immediately launched an investigation and found that Abdul Hussain was the mastermind behind the shootout. Others involved in the shootout are yet to be identified.

The Police already released the details of the accused, seeking information and announced INR 2 lac for any information about the accused.

It must be mentioned that Sajjak Alam was arrested in 2019 from the Karandighi area of the North Dinajpur district. He was accused of the murder of Hindutva leader and BJP worker Subesh Das. Since then, he has been in jail. As per the last received reports, Sajjak Alam and others are absconding.
