A Muslim man called Wasim Akram Waheed was arrested by police on Saturday in Surat after he used a Hindu name and lied about his original identity to lure a 22-year-old girl, a post graduate topper from a leading university, into a relationship and rape her on the pretext of marriage. Waheed has been arrested
As per a report, the accused lives in Surat’s Rajput Faliya neighborhood, and he owns a business by the name of Sunrise Event. In addition to her studies, the victim, who hails from Vesu, recently started offering event management services.
She encountered Wasim, who introduced himself using the fictitious Hindu name Vasu Gwaladiya. Because his prior female business partner had left his business, he offered a business partnership to the victim.
They became close after forming a collaboration and frequently spoke on the phone. Wasim took her to a hotel ostensibly for work and there he developed a physical relation after promising marriage. Wasim continued to sexually exploit her by taking her to different hotels between 1 July 2022 to 10 February 2023.
When their office was being shifted in February, the girl found his Aadhar card, which had his actual name on it, and that is how she learned of his identity. When she confronted him, he threatened to kill her and her family if she revealed this to anyone.
After this, she broke off her business partnership as well as ended the relationship with the accused. She then filed a complaint with Vesu police, narrating the entire incident.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under IPC sections 406, 376(2)n, 504, 506(2) against Wasim Akram Waheed, and arrested him for rape and criminal breach of trust. The police stated that the accused is a native of Rajasthan, and they will investigate whether he has victimized more girls. The girl’s father is a textile mill employee. It appears that Wasim Akram Waheed had used the false identity of ‘Vasu Gwaladiya’ with all his colleagues and clients.
