Muslim mob pelts stones on cops from inside mosque, destroys police station: Gujarat

On Tuesday a violent mob resorted to stone-pelting policemen from inside a mosque at Kapadvanj in Gujarat. They had gathered in numbers for offering evening namaz disregarding social distancing norms. Interestingly this is happening during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan when most Muslims fast to improve their spiritual discipline and curb negative emptions like anger.

The incident occurred at the Ali Masjid located near the Lions Club area. The area is located around 70 kilometers from both Ahmedabad and Godhra.

Following the incident, a mob gathered and unleashed another wave of violence. They attacked the Kundvav police station situated barely walking distance from the mosque. The whole police station was ransacked and government property was destroyed. Two motorcycles and a car were burnt there. They then moved on to the Town police station and resorted to stone-pelting. Local media reports also showed many vehicles destroyed by the same mob.

Police retaliated with tear gas to try and control the mob but failed. Ultimately they had to call in additional forces. Local media reported that one police personnel was injured and added that the police officers declined to comment on the unfortunate event. Further details are awaited.

This becomes yet another incident in a long-line of attacks on police by Muslim mobs.
