Violent clashes & stone pelting reported from Ahmednagar & Nandurbar: Maharashtra

Violent clashes were reported in two cities in Maharashtra on Tuesday. In two separate incidents, two groups clashed in Ahmednagar on Tuesday night and stone-pelting took place in Nandurbar. The police have arrested many of the miscreants involved in both incidents. Additionally, a heavy police force has been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Clashes between two groups in a gym at Nandurbar on Tuesday night led to stone pelting. Stones and glass bottles were hurled causing heavy damage to property. Three policemen who had arrived to control the situation were also injured.

As soon as the police received information about the clash, a police team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) PR Patil arrived at the spot. The situation was brought under control within thirty minutes by firing tear gas shells. The police took assistance from municipal council staff to remove stones and glass from the road. A case has been registered and more than 25 people were arrested till 10 AM on Wednesday morning.

The police said that the three policemen received minor injuries and further investigations to identify and arrest other miscreants are ongoing. After the incident, a contingent of the police force and state reserve force was deployed in the city. SP Patil has instructed his men to take strict action against those involved in the violence. He also warned that those spreading rumours on social media will be dealt with strictly.

In Ahmednagar, a clash broke out between two groups in which four persons were injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday night and 10 rioters have been arrested by the Ahmednagar police thus far. As per reports, miscreants involved in the clash pelted stones and damaged vehicles.

It has also come to light that the dispute which started between children of two communities escalated into a clash after adults from both sides joined the fight. Stones were pelted and some people set parked vehicles ablaze.

“A youth of the group passing near a mosque in the Gajraj Nagar area was allegedly beaten up by members of another group, triggering a violent clash. A two-wheeler was set on fire and two vehicles, including a four-wheeler, were damaged during the clash between the two groups”, said an Ahmednagar MIDC police officer. “The matter is being investigated. Action will be taken against the culprits under riot-related sections. We have appealed to people not to believe in rumours.”, SP Rakesh Ola said.

The reports of these clashes come in the backdrop of Islamist violence during Ram Navami celebrations across Bharat. Islamists pelted stones and torched vehicles outside Kiradpura’s Ram Mandir in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. Reports also say an Islamist mob of about 500 to 600 people attacked Hindus for playing songs during namaz. Clashes were also reported from Jalgaon District as Islamists attacked a Shobha Yatra playing DJ music as it passed by a mosque in the district’s Paldhi. 45 have been arrested and two FIRs have been registered by the police for the violence that started on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, a Dindi Yatra was on its way to Saptashringi Garh when unidentified miscreants pelted stones at the yatra participants as it passed Paldhi village. The participants were angered by the attack. In the vandalism that followed, three private vehicles were vandalized, a police jeep was torched and three persons were injured.
