The heartbreaking news of a 9-year-old tribal girl being raped and murdered has emerged from Hyderabad. Although the incident occurred on March 23, no arrests have been made so far. The parents of the minor girl have alleged that they suspect the hand of their neighbor Sheikh Mastan Vali’s hand in the crime.

The SC Reservation Parirakshana Samiti has put out a video where the girl’s mother says:

The sniffer dog proceeded towards the gate of their neighbor after smelling the victim’s house. However, the police dragged the dog away.

While speaking to the media, the girl’s mother further says that she and her husband have no faith. We know who the suspect is. She also said that we don’t know whom to tell and whether we will also be murdered like our daughter on revealing the same. We did complain to the police who had come here with their sniffer dogs.

SC Reservation Parirakshana Samiti, in the meanwhile, has written to NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) seeking their intervention so as to ensure that the tribal girl and her family get justice.

Police and media, however, have been putting out a different story in the matter. Telangana cops suspect that the girl may have died while playing. The Hindu ran a story stating that the 9-year-old hung herself while playing skipping and hanging herself with the skipping rope in a playful act led to her death.

Mainstream media, on the other hand, quotes the police as saying the girl, who is the eldest of the three siblings was playing at home along with two of her cousins. She was about to leave for the temple when her youngest sibling insisted on joining her. She is then supposed to have mockingly threatened to kill herself as she didn’t want to take him along.

Further, as per Times of India:

“Saidabad police said that as per the complaint given by the girl’s parents when they went out for work, the couple’s three children were at their hut along with a few more children of the same locality.

By the time the girl’s mother returned, there were locals who gathered at their hut. When she enquired, the mother was told that her elder daughter was found dead. The locals observed that there was a ligature injury on her neck.

Based on a complaint lodged by her family members, a case of suspicious death was registered. “The children told police that the 9-year-old girl twice tried to arrange the loop using a skipping wire at a particular place in their hut, but later chose another location and hanged herself in front of them,” Saidabad inspector K Srinivas said.

According to the police, the deceased’s younger sister, who is 5 years old, climbed onto a stool and cut the wire using a knife and the deceased fell down. Immediately, the other children alerted their neighbors, who reached the place and saw the girl dead.

Officials said that they are suspecting that the girl might have done a playful act to threaten her brother, as he was forcing her to take him to a local temple. “As of now, we do not know the reason why she hanged herself. There is a possibility that her playful act to control her brother might have proved costly. Earlier, she threatened him that she will hang herself if he joins her at the temple,” Srinivas said. Police are awaiting the final post-mortem report.”

It is only an impartial investigation under the watchful supervision of NCPCR that would bring out the truth and help to find out if the parents’ allegations are correct and whether the police are trying to shield the accused since he belongs to the minority community.
