West Bengal: Abu Sheikh killed his 9-year-old nephew over a love triangle

In yet another horrific news surfacing from West Bengal’s Monteswar (Manteswar) subdivision in the Purba Bardhaman, police have arrested Abu Sheikh in the murder case of his 9-year-old nephew Belwar Hossain Sheikh. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday, September 8.

The victim, Belwar Hossain Sheikh, a resident of Patikeldanga in Monteshwar, had gone to his school like any other day, but he didn’t return. His family started searching for him everywhere but failed to locate him. Locals became agitated with the news of the missing child. The family then went to his school, where they learned that Abu Sheikh had come to meet his nephew. This information led to suspicions in the minds of the child’s family. The family then approached the local police to report the sudden disappearance of the minor.

The police lodged a complaint and detained Abu Sheikh for an initial investigation. His interrogation continued till 2 AM, and the revelations from this prolonged interrogation were shocking. With the information received from the accused, police recovered Belawar’s body from a local graveyard late at night. The boy was still in his school uniform, and the body was sent for post-mortem.

The deceased student’s maternal uncle has revealed to the police that murder-accused Abu Sheikh had gotten into an affair with a local Adivasi woman. The woman also has a daughter. Meanwhile, Belwar’s father and Abu Sheikh’s brother also had a romantic relationship with the same woman.

This love triangle provoked trouble between the brothers. Amidst the spiralling problem, Belwar’s father eloped with this Adivasi woman just a few days ago. This left the brother, who shared the same feeling for the woman, irate and scorned. As per reports, he killed his brother’s 9-year-old son to exact revenge on his brother, who ran away with his “lover.” Further investigations are underway.

  1. Illiteracy, superstition and religious bigotry breed such types of horrific crimes. Love is a Natural force, so it follows its own flow-path.
