An SC groom and his marriage party was attacked in the presence of police by members of the OBC community who objected to his riding a horse. The incident took place on the night of November 25 in Rajasthan.
As per available information as the groom’s family arrived at the wedding venue, some people were upset with an SC groom riding a horse. Following this members belonging to the OBC community began pelting stones even as policemen were present at the venue remained mute spectators.
The stone-pelting led to members of the wedding party running helter-skelter to save themselves and several members were reportedly injured in the melee. In the meanwhile, the stone-pelters escaped from the place taking advantage of night cover. Jaipur Rural SP Manish Agarwal and MLA Indraj Gurjar reached the spot on getting information regarding the incident. They convinced the wedding party and ensured the smooth conduct of the remaining wedding rituals with police protection.
The family had already informed the police regarding the impending marriages in their family due to which police protection had been given. However, despite the presence of a police force, the attack took place. The incident has caused anguish among members of the SC community who demanded that the culprits be brought to justice at the earliest.
Law and order in Congress-ruled Rajasthan has been on the downhill and the latest incident even though policemen were present at the venue says a lot about the same.
