Kerala : Parallel telephone exchange with probable terror links busted by IB

A person named Kacherikuzhiyil Juraiz has been arrested by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) from Kozhikode for running a parallel telephone exchange. Juraiz told the police that he is just an employee and the masterminds are Shabeer and Prasad, both of whom are absconding. He told police that he was in charge of maintenance and that there were six more similar rooms spread across Kozhikode town where they had hidden such equipments.

Local police under Assistant Commissioner Swapnil M Mahajan raided these premises. Sophisticated routers, sim boxes, and over 700 sim cards were found and confiscated. Equipment from one of the premises remains unaccounted for as the absconding owners are thought to have shifted them prior to their escape.

The suspects received calls, and used BSNL broadband connections and their devices to transfer them to unknown calls and send them to the receiver. This made the tracing of calls difficult. Receivers know that such calls are illegal and are only possible if they agree.  It is being reported that BSNL tipped off the IB after it found suspicious activities. Such calls are illegal mainly since they are not traceable or trackable easily and can be used by enemy nations to incite anti-nationals within Bharat. Participation automatically means conspiracy against our country.

according to reports, Police are not interested in the ones that were making calls to override the WhatsApp call ban that exists in most Arab countries. They plan to coordinate with the sim card providers and go through the list of callers to zero in on the frequent ones. This way they hope to prove terrorist links if there are any.

The accused have been charged for losses suffered by service providers. It is suspected that the Karipur drug smuggling mafia also used this route to remain anonymous.

It is also suspected that this is a continuation of the Military Intelligence raids that took place last month in Bhatkal and Bengaluru. The main accused in what an army press note back then called “disrupting the country’s security” was Ibrahim Pulatti from Malappuram. They are suspected to have facilitated multiple calls to the Siliguri army camp asking for information on troop movement from enemy countries
