Online Ayurveda business owner attacked with swords by a group of 7 men in Amritsar, Punjab

On Monday a young Ayurveda medical business owner Shamsher Singh was viciously attacked by a group of seven sword-wielding goons while he was working inside his store. The incident happened near Batala Road under Sadar police station of Amritsar, Punjab.

The savage hacking was over in 20 seconds and the criminals managed to escape but unknown to them their heinous act was being recorded on CCTV cameras installed inside the premises. Other shopkeepers in the vicinity immediately took a seriously wounded Singh to a nearby private hospital where he underwent surgeries and is now recuperating.

At around 3 in the afternoon, the shattering of his storefront glass display window jolted Singh. Before he could assess the situation, three men with long sharp blades entered the premises and attacked Singh. Four more entered the store with stones and all seven continued the attack. Within seconds the goons who had camouflaged their faces left Singh with grievous injuries and escaped on their bikes.

CCTV camera footage showed the accused enter the shop and attack Singh. They began by hacking him on his knee to fell him and then followed it up with several more from behind. They ended up inflicting 8 deep cuts on Singh fracturing his knee and cutting off the main nerves in one of his hands.

Singh’s father Lakhwinder Singh said that a few local boys picked up enmity with his son a couple of years ago. They were threatening to teach him a lesson for the past few days. Singh was earlier working for someone and had turned into an entrepreneur dealing in online sales of ayurvedic medications, just a year ago. The fate of a couple of sales representatives and a lady staff who were present at the time of the incident remains unclear. Local police are investigating.

It is not known whether the incident has anything to do with the current hostility that Christian associations like IMA harbors against age-old traditional medicines like Ayurveda. Several cult missionary conversions have been on full throttle in the past few decades in Punjab and especially in the Jalandhar/ Amritsar belt.
