NIA arrests absconding accused in Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspector Wilson Murder Case

NIA has nabbed Chennai resident Shihabudeen alias Sirajudeen alias Khalid who is one of the accused in the murder of Special sub-inspector Wilson in January 2020 and had absconded. The NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on 1 February 2020.

Abdul Shameem and Thowfeek who had murdered the officer while he was on duty at Kanyakumari district’s Kaliyakkavilai Market Road check-post were arrested by the NIA.

In the course of the NIA investigation, the roles of accused Khaja Mohideen, Mahboob Pasha, Ejas Pasha, Jaffer Ali, and Khalid in the conspiracy to carry out the terrorist act besides the assistance provided to the assailants in procuring illegal firearm and prohibited ammunition, for waging violent jihad came to light.

NIA file a charge-sheet against Abdul Shameem, Thowfeek, Khaja Mohideen, Mahboob Pasha, Ejas Pasha, and Jaffar Ali under sections 120B, 302, 353 and 506, 34 of the IPC, sections 16, 18, 18B, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in addition to sections 25(1B)(a) and 27 of the Arms Act.

Khalid who had escaped abroad in January 2020 was arrested by the NIA upon his arrival at Chennai airport from Qatar. NIA confirmed the arrest and issued a press statement to this effect yesterday.

The NIA press release reads:

  1. Today (06.1.2021), NIA arrested absconding accused Shihabudeen @ Sirajudeen @ Khalid, aged 39 years, resident of Chennai, Tamil Nadu in RC-06/2020/NIA/DLI (SSI Wilson Murder Case), following his arrival at Chennai International Airport from Qatar for his involvement in the killing of Sh. Wilson, Special Sub-Inspector.
  2. The case pertains to the killing of Sh. Wilson, Special Sub-Inspector of Tamil Nadu Police on 8th January 2020, by Jehadi terrorists namely Abdul Shameem and Thowfeek, while the officer was performing duty at the check-post along Kaliyakkavilai Market Road in Kanyakumari district. The case was re-registered by the NIA on 1st February 2020. Abdul Shameem and Thowfeek were later arrested.
  3. During NIA investigation, the roles of accused Khaja Mohideen, Mahboob Pasha, Ejas Pasha, Jaffer Ali and Shihabudeen @ Sirajudeen @ Khalid in the conspiracy to carry out the terrorist act besides the assistance provided to the assailants in procuring illegal firearm and prohibited ammunition, for waging violent jihad was revealed.
  4. On 10th July 2020, a charge-sheet was filed against Abdul Shameem, Thowfeek, Khaja Mohideen, Mahboob Pasha, Ejas Pasha, and Jaffar Ali under sections 120B, 302, 353 and 506, 34 of the IPC, sections 16, 18, 18B, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of the UA (P) Act besides sections 25(1B)(a) and 27 of the Arms Act. The investigation was continued against Shihabudheen @ Sirajudheen @ Khalid (A-7), who was absconding abroad, since January 2020, as it was revealed that Shihabudheen had arranged the illegal firearm and prohibited ammunition used by Shameem and Thowfik, to commit the terrorist act.
  5. Further investigation in the case is continuing
