A video shared by Sakal Hindu Samaj highlights the extent of damage caused to Neeraj’s house. Neeraj’s wife and other family members also showed the board containing beheading threats.

As per Patrika’s report, on Tuesday (9 September) early morning attempts were made to set Neeraj Upadhyay’s residence, located in Varsha Nagar of Vikhroli Parksite area. A board stating “Sar tan se Juda, tan Sar se juda” (head will be separated from the body and body from the head) was hung outside his house. The fire was put off in time and no one was injured or harmed in the incident. This incident took place a few hours after Neeraj Upadhyay’s dispute with Muslims carrying out Eid-e-Milad procession. The culprits were yet to be identified as of 9 September and the Parksite police was interrogating the locals to identify and arrest the miscreants.

The Chowk in this area was named after Dharamveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj a few years ago and an iron board was erected at the spot with Chhatrapati’s name. However, on 8 September illegal banner related to Eid were hung on the board. Rickshaw driver Neeraj Upadhyay noticed this and reported to the local police demanding action against those who had put up the banner. Furthermore, he demanded the removal of the banner.

About 4 to 5 youths attempted to squabble with Neeraj when he asked that the banner be removed. The police intervened and settled the matter before the situation could go out of hand. However, suddenly on Tuesday early morning the situation worsened after some individuals reached Neeraj’s home and attempted to torch it. The alertness of his family members ensured that no mishap happened. The family members also spotted the threatening message. The scared family members requested the police to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

Last reported, an FIR has been registered against unidentified individuals based on Neeraj Upadhyay’s complaint. Parksite police is investigating the matter. They are examining CCTV footage, in addition to questioning the locals, to identify the culprits.
