NCSC has called for action taken report in the case of a 10-year-old SC girl being sexually harassed by a Christian pastor. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has given seven days’ time to the concerned authorities to submit the report.
A letter dated 3 August by NCSC addressed to East Godavari District Collector and Superintendent of Police raises questions regarding the non-inclusion of sections of the SC-ST Act against the pastor. The letter reads:
I am directed to refer to this Commission’s letter of even number dated 15.07.2021 on the above-cited subject and to say that the requisite report has not been received till date even after the lapse of the stipulated time period. It is, therefore, requested to look into the matter and to ensure that the said report is furnished to this Commission within 7 days of receipt of this letter.
The notice comes after SC-ST Rights Forum raised the issue with NCSC. In July this year, the Forum had approached NCSC and petitioned to them stating that sections of the SC-ST Act hadn’t been applied in the case. Following this, the NCSC had issued notices to the District Collector and SP of East Godavari giving them 15 days time to invoke the relevant sections and submit an action taken report.
However, the concerned authorities continued to maintain a lackadaisical attitude and failed to respond to the earlier notice. When this was brought to the Commission’s attention, the NCSC issued a second notice and has asked the authorities to take the necessary action and report the same to the Commission.
