A case of grooming of a 14-year-old minor has come to the fore from Samastipur in Uttar Pradesh. A Muslim youth is alleged to have abducted and forcibly married the minor in a nikah (Islamic marriage) ceremony.
The case is from the Shahpur police station area of Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh. The girl’s mother has alleged that the family of Tabarak, whose family originally hails from Samastipur, had been living in a rented house in the Shahpur police station area for a long time. She has further alleged that he had been harassing their 14-year-old daughter and even used to follow her when she used to go to and return from school.
When the girl left home for school on March 1, Tabarak Khan abducted her and took her to Gorakhpur where her forced her for nikah. Further, he even threatened to kill the minor and warned her not to tell anyone about this before dropping her near her residence in the evening.
From the day of the incident, the daughter became unusually silent and did not say anything when asked. But when the girl’s mother saw her bag on Sunday, she found some documents in Urdu. The next day, when the documents were shown to other people, the girl’s mother came to know that it was a Nikahnama (marriage certificate), after which the girl told the entire incident to her mother. Tabarak even threatened to kill them after family members lodged a complaint.
A case has been filed in Shahpur police station by the minor’s mother. The police have registered a case against the accused for kidnapping and grooming. Reports also indicate that he has been arrested. The police have also begun the search for the cleric who facilitated the nikah. Teenager’s medical is also being done to establish if sections of rape should also be applied to the accused. If the investigation confirms the rape, then the accused would be charged for rape too.
