Muslim woman, who married a Hindu, stabbed by her relatives: Kerala

A Muslim woman who had recently married a Hindu man was attacked with a knife and had to be hospitalized. This dastardly act took place at Kalanjoor in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. The attackers were the woman’s own sister and brother-in-law.

The couple had fallen in love and their marriage took place last month. Both were living at her husband’s place, close by. She had come to her parent’s house when the incident occurred.

The woman who has injuries to her arms has been admitted to a hospital in Ranni. The newlyweds had come home to meet her mother, and the woman’s sister and her husband were also present there. The attack happened when they were about to leave.

It is alleged that the sister shouted that she was not ready to share their ancestral property, following which she tried to stab the victim with a sharp weapon. In the melee that followed, the girl was gored when the attacker lunged at her. The police have registered a case and have confirmed that they will record the victim’s statement soon.

The police say that there were no ‘significant objections’ to the marriage but the events that followed seem to suggest otherwise. Further details are awaited even as there are allegations of this being an honor attack.
