A married Sikh woman was lured into a live-in relationship by a Muslim truck driver. When the woman started to pressure him for marriage, he decided to get rid of her in the most cold-blooded way.
When Manpreet Kaur, 28, was found dead on NH-74 at Afzalgarh in Bijnor district of West UP on Saturday night, police initially thought she had met with an accident. But later it turned out that it was an elaborate plan to get away with murder — she had been killed by her live-in partner, who had “staged” the accident. As per a Times of India report –
“Manpreet used to work at a garment store at Kashipur in Uttarakhand. Eight years ago, she got married to Sukhveer Singh, 29, a small business owner. They had a daughter, who is now five. Five years into the marriage, she fell for Nafees Ahmed, 26, a truck driver from Maniyawala in Bijnor. They moved in together.
On Sunday, when Sukhveer, whom Manpreet had left three years ago, identified her body, another lead emerged. “He said Manpreet had been asking Nafees to marry her. Nafees did not want to,” a cop said. Sukhveer filed a complaint, naming Nafees as an accused.
Nafees was booked for murder and causing disappearance of evidence. When he was detained for questioning, police said, he confessed to cold-blooded murder.
“Nafees told police that Manpreet was pressuring him to marry her. He did not wish to do so. On Saturday, he told her they should go out on a drive and took her out in his truck,” Bijnor SP Dharamveer Singh said. “When they reached a desolate stretch, he hit her on the head with an iron rod. When she lost consciousness, he placed her on the road and ran his truck over her body and then her head.”
Police found Manpreet’s Aadhaar card and phone on Nafees. He was arrested on Monday afternoon and sent to jail.”
Just a few days back, Bijnor had been shocked by the murder of national level Kho-Kho player Babli Rani, who was strangled to death by a Muslim stalker after Babli resisted his rape bid.
In June, the Sikh community was up in arms after reports of two Sikhs girls being groomed and married to older Muslim men in Kashmir. Earlier that month, a Sikh widow from Uttarakhand and her two sons were converted to Islam by a Muslim truck driver (a friend of the woman’s late husband) in Rampur district of UP. A complaint was lodged when the two minor boys were circumcised in violation of UP’s anti-conversion law.
